Islanders vs Predators Pick
Roman Josi may no longer quite be a Norris-caliber defender, but he's still one of the NHL's better offensive defensemen and seems to be flying under the radar with 12 points in 11 games this season. Josi and the Predators' top stars were excellent in Sunday's upset win over the Avalanche and have a good opportunity to build on that performance versus a mediocre Islanders squad Tuesday.
At even strength, Josi started the season playing alongside Nicolas Hague, on a pairing that was highly ineffective and struggling to control play at a respectable rate. Head coach Andrew Brunette has since pivoted to a combination of Josi and Adam Wilsby, which has generated 3.40 xGA/60 across 93.5 minutes of play.
The Predators' power play has succeeded on 33.3% of opportunities thus far this season, and though that success rate will regress, the unit has looked quite cohesive, with Josi garnering the most touches as quarterback.
Josi has recorded at least one assist in seven of 11 games played so far this season, and 11 in total. Both the eye test and underlying results suggest Josi's game is in a good spot right now, and Tuesday's matchup offers a solid spot for the Predators' captain to record another assist at -108.
Pick: Roman Josi to Record an Assist (-120, DraftKings)
Canucks vs Ducks Pick
The depth of Anaheim's roster has been a real concern out of the gates, as it has posted a record of 5-6-0 and allowed 3.88 xGA/60. The Ducks get a smash spot to earn an important win Tuesday as they take on a Canucks side that has allowed 4.62 xGA/60 as well as 4.62 goals against per 60 where it counts, and I'm high on the chalky angle in expecting the tandem of Leo Carlsson and Cutter Gauthier to thrive in this soft matchup.
Carlsson's $18 million cap hit looks to be the least of the team's concerns, as he has looked dominant while recording 13 points across 11 games. Gauthier has not been the clinical finisher we are used to seeing just yet (shooting just 5.9%), but the looks have been there, and this feels like a good spot to target some positive regression.
My preferred angle is backing bet365's outlier price of +105 for each of Carlsson and Gauthier to record a point. At Monday's practice, the two remained together on both the top line and top power-play unit, so considering the correlation of the play, a price of +105 looks highly appealing for this matchup.
There also looks to be value in backing Gauthier to score at a consensus price of +130, which I would bet into a little more heavily if I were a user unable to play bet365's price for each to record a point.
Pick: Leo Carlsson/Cutter Gauthier 1+ Goal Each (+105, bet365), Cutter Gauthier Anytime Goalscorer (+130, bet365)
Sabres vs Sharks Pick
Since being drafted 16th overall in 2022, Noah Ostlund's trajectory has steadily climbed, and he looks poised for a full-fledged breakout campaign this season after finally earning a consistent role in the Sabres' top six. He's fared very well alongside Jack Quinn on the second line so far this season, and though the unit was shaken up a little with Josh Doan overtaking Zach Benson's spot in Saturday's matchup, that should not reduce its effectiveness.
Ostlund also remained on the Sabres' top power-play unit at Sunday's practice, which obviously strengthens his chances of producing versus a thin Sharks roster, which has still struggled considerably from a defensive perspective.
Ostlund has recorded eight points throughout the first 11 games of the season and has seen his time-on-ice average rise to 18:54, up considerably since last season. A large portion of Buffalo's fanbase has clamored for Ostlund to receive a more consistent role for some time now, and those believers have to feel vindicated currently.
Based on the favorable matchup and his current roles, a price of -104 looks appealing to back Ostlund to find the scoresheet Tuesday.
Pick: Noah Ostlund Over 0.5 Goals (+300, Hard Rock)
