Flames vs Oilers Pick
The Edmonton Oilers' overs have been an auto-bet thus far this season, and there is no reason to stop now. There have been seven or more total goals scored in each of their past five games, a trend driven by two factors.
First, this Edmonton offense continues to be the best in hockey. Entering this matchup, the Oilers rank first in goals scored per game, second in power-play percentage and first in shooting percentage.
Second, Edmonton's goaltending has struggled. Specifically, Tristan Jarry has endured a turbulent start with his new team, and he is projected to start once again on Wednesday.
Through five starts, Jarry is 2-2-1 with an .869 save percentage and a 3.53 goals-against average. That said, the Calgary Flames' goaltending situation has been even worse.
Dustin Wolf is slated to guard the cage on Wednesday, and he is a good fade candidate. Through his first five starts, Wolf is 1-4 with an .834 save percentage and a 4.86 goals-against average.
He just surrendered six goals in his latest start against the Vegas Golden Knights, and facing the Oilers is an even tougher task.
Pick: Flames/Oilers Over 6.5 (-110 at BetMGM | Play to -115)
Devils vs Avalanche Pick
Speaking of tough tasks, the New Jersey Devils have to go on the road for the second game of a back-to-back to face a well-rested Colorado Avalanche team. Colorado hasn't played since Sunday, which is just one of the many advantages it possesses in this contest.
Another is goaltending, given that Jake Allen is expected to draw the start for New Jersey. Through seven starts, Allen possesses an .886 save percentage.
On the other hand, the Avalanche counter with Mackenzie Blackwood, who owns a higher save percentage through his first eight starts of the campaign.
The Avalanche are also the superior team offensively, outranking the Devils in goals scored per game and shooting percentage.
Finally, Colorado has won four of its six home games thus far. All four of those wins came by at least two goals.
Pick: Avalanche -1.5 (+130 at DraftKings)
Maple Leafs vs Kraken Pick
Wednesday's nightcap features the Seattle Kraken hosting the Toronto Maple Leafs. These have been two of the best offenses in the league, with each ranking in the top seven in both goals scored per game and shooting percentage.
However, both teams also rank in the bottom half of the league in goals allowed per game, shots on goal allowed per game and penalty minutes per game. Given those factors, it's not surprising that seven or more total goals have been scored in each of Toronto's past four games and in eight of Seattle's past 10.
Goaltending has also been a question mark for both sides. The Maple Leafs' Sergei Bobrovsky has allowed three or more goals in eight of his nine starts this year, posting a 3-4-2 record over that stretch with a .897 save percentage.
Meanwhile, the Kraken's Philipp Grubauer has allowed three or more goals in each of his past three starts. He owns a .895 save percentage over that stretch.
Pick: Maple Leafs/Kraken Over 6.5 (54 Cents at Kalshi)
