Detroit Red Wings Odds & Betting Guide: 2026-27 Season

Where the Red Wings Stand

The Red Wings finished 2025-26 at 41-31-10 with 92 points, sixth in the Atlantic and seven points short of the last wild card. They had 69 points through 53 games, then went 9-15-5. Only one other team in NHL history reached 69 points that early and missed the playoffs.

The goal differential matters more. Detroit allowed 17 more goals than it scored, and extra time propped up the record: 11 wins came after regulation, and 10 more games produced a loser point. Results that close to a coin flip tend to drift back toward even.

The club moved Steve Yzerman out as general manager in July and named Shawn Horcoff interim GM in September. Todd McLellan returns behind the bench. Dylan Larkin, a 34-goal scorer last season, requested a trade in June and lost the captaincy, and unsigned defenseman Simon Edvinsson has also asked out. Patrick Kane signed with Chicago. Detroit added Viktor Arvidsson and Keegan Kolesar and traded goalie prospect Sebastian Cossa to the Utah Mammoth.

John Gibson made 57 starts last season with a .901 save percentage. Daniil Tarasov, who posted a .895 in 33 games as Florida's backup, replaces Cam Talbot.

Eastern Conference and Atlantic Division Context

Detroit plays 28 of its 84 games inside the Atlantic, and the first two playoff rounds follow the division bracket.

The Buffalo Sabres won the division with 109 points, then lost Alex Tuch and Bowen Byram. The Florida Panthers missed the playoffs through an injury-wrecked season, added Brady Tkachuk and led the division board by late summer. The Tampa Bay Lightning and Montreal Canadiens both reached 106 points. The Boston Bruins and Ottawa Senators took both wild cards, and the Toronto Maple Leafs finished last before signing Sergei Bobrovsky.

Detroit's realistic path runs through the wild-card line, which sat at 99 points last season, roughly 101 on an 84-game pace.

Red Wings 2026-27 Point Total

Books post a season point total in place of a win total, because overtime losses still earn a point. DraftKings listed Detroit at 86.5 heading into opening night, over -110 and under -120.

The two extra games lift every total above its 82-game equivalent, so 86.5 works out to about 84.5 on last season's scale, nearly eight points below Detroit's 92. The heavier juice on the under shows where money landed before opening night. It does not tell you which side is right.

The Red Wings angle: Detroit plays 12 of its final 25 games against Atlantic opponents, three each against Buffalo, Montreal and Ottawa. Those games settle the wild-card race and this total together.

Red Wings 2026-27 Futures Odds

Major books ranged from +10000 to +25000 on Detroit in late September, a gap worth shopping on the Stanley Cup futures board. FanDuel moved the Red Wings' playoff price from +290 to +540 between summer and opening week, and shortened their worst-record price from +2000 to +1000.

Alex DeBrincat's 41 goals last season make him the Red Wings' Rocket Richard name to watch, and Michael Brandsegg-Nygard's 14 games leave him Calder-eligible.

Betting Red Wings Puck Lines

The NHL's version of the point spread is the puck line. Books set it at 1.5 goals in nearly every game and adjust the price instead of the number.

• Red Wings -1.5 (+165) / Blackhawks +1.5 (-200)

Red Wings cover by winning by two or more goals. Blackhawks cover by winning outright or losing by one. The half-goal means neither side can push.

So many NHL games finish within one goal that the favorite usually pays plus money on the puck line, while the underdog costs a steep price. A winning $100 bet on Red Wings -1.5 at +165 returns $265: the $100 stake plus $165 in profit. Backing Blackhawks +1.5 at -200 means risking $200 to win $100.

At most books, a game decided in overtime or a shootout goes down as a one-goal win, so the +1.5 side cashes any time the game gets past regulation. Late in close games, the trailing team pulls its goalie for an extra skater, and an empty-net goal is often what turns a one-goal win into a puck line cover.

The Red Wings angle: From November 2 to 14, Detroit plays six of seven on the road, including two games each at Florida and Tampa Bay and a stop at altitude in Colorado. Books will likely price the Red Wings as road underdogs there, which makes +1.5 expensive and the moneyline the cleaner way in.

Betting Red Wings Totals

Books set a total for the combined goals both teams score, then let bettors take a side.

Say books post Red Wings vs. Blackhawks at 6.5, with the over at +105 and the under at -125. The over cashes if the two teams combine for seven or more goals. The under cashes at six or fewer. A half-goal total cannot push. When books post a whole number like 6, a six-goal game pushes and both sides get their stake back.

NHL totals sit in a narrow band, mostly 5.5 to 6.5, so books move the juice far more often than the number. Overtime goals count toward the total. Most books also add one goal to the winner's score for a shootout win, so a 3-3 game decided in a shootout grades as seven. Check the book's rules.

The starting goalies move NHL totals more than anything else. Books often wait for the confirmed starters before settling the price, and a backup in net can shift both the number and the juice.

Betting the Red Wings Moneyline

The moneyline asks one question: who wins. At most books it includes overtime and the shootout.

• Red Wings -160 / Blackhawks +135

Minus marks the favorite, plus the underdog. At -160 you risk $160 to win $100. At +135 you risk $100 to win $135.

Converting to implied probability makes the pricing clearer. The -160 favorite implies 61.5%. The +135 underdog implies 42.6%. Those sum to 104.1%, not 100%. The extra 4.1 points are the book's margin, and the book collects it whichever side wins.

One thing worth getting straight: a short price is not automatically a bad bet. Bettors call heavy favorites bad value out of habit, but if the Red Wings win this matchup 65% of the time, -160 is a price worth taking, because it only implies 61.5%. Value is the gap between real probability and priced probability. The size of the number tells you nothing on its own.

When one side carries heavier juice than the other, that tells you where money is landing, not which side is correct. If the Red Wings drift from -160 to -185, bettors backed the Red Wings and the book adjusted its exposure. The team did not become more likely to win.

Books also post a regulation line, sometimes called the three-way or 60-minute line. It adds a third outcome, a tie after regulation, so both teams pay longer prices than on the standard moneyline. A bet on the Red Wings in regulation loses if the game goes to overtime, even if the Red Wings win it there.

The over needs four shots on goal. The under needs three or fewer.

Anytime goal scorer is the other high-volume NHL prop. At +180, Alex DeBrincat scoring implies 35.7%. Overtime goals count at most books; shootout goals do not.

NHL props follow ice time and deployment. A player promoted to the top line or the first power-play unit gets more shifts and more shooting chances, and books adjust when line combinations change. Goalie save props depend on the opponent's shot volume and on the goalie actually starting. Check the confirmed starter and the injury report before betting a prop, and check the book's rules for a player who does not play, because they differ between books.

A Larkin trade would reshape Detroit's top six and first power-play unit overnight, and books would rework the prop board the same day. Check the injury report first.

Red Wings Public Betting Splits

Splits break ticket count out from money handled, and the gap is the useful part. If 70% of tickets sit on the over but only 45% of the dollars do, the larger bets are on the under.
