Winter Olympics betting was overshadowed, or more accurately, completely eclipsed by the Super Bowl. But with the Big Game complete, bettors can step right into another massive event.
Without a doubt, men’s hockey will be the big draw over the next couple of weeks. And, it's no surprise that Canada and the USA are 1-2 in Olympic men’s hockey futures odds.
Olympic women’s hockey futures are attracting action, as well.
Winter Olympics Hockey Odds
Men’s Hockey Futures
The men’s hockey tournament begins Wednesday, with a dozen teams divided into three groups.
Group play has some interesting dynamics as the winner of each group gets a bye to the semis, as does the next-best team among the three groups — that’s four slots.
The remaining eight teams then go through a qualification round to determine the other four quarterfinalists.
Canada, the +105 favorite in BetMGM’s Winter Olympics men’s hockey futures, is in Group A, along with Switzerland, Czechia, and France. USA is the +190 second choice and leads Group C, joined by Germany, Latvia, and Denmark.
Group B is led by Sweden and Finland. Sweden is the +750 third choice to win the gold medal, followed by Finland at +1100.
But those two teams are afterthoughts for bettors wagering on Olympic hockey futures odds.
“Canada and USA account for more than 90% of the handle for the futures market,” BetMGM trading manager Christian Cipollini said. “There’s not a ton of movement among those two, who have been No. 1 and No. 2 since opening.”
With the strength of Canada and the U.S., and with the IOC banning Russia from the tournament, neither Cipollini nor bettors give any other team much chance in the men’s hockey gold medal odds.
“Sweden and Finland would be the other two with a chance, but it looks to be a two-team race for gold,” he said.
The gold-medal game is on Feb. 22, the final day of the 2026 Winter Olympics.
Women’s Hockey Futures
The 10-team women’s tournament – with two five-team groups – is already underway. Favorite USA (-165) and second choice Canada (+135) are both in Group A, along with Czechia, Finland, and Switzerland.
Those last three are all hefty long shots. Czechia is the +4000 third choice, Finland is the +6600 co-fourth choice, and Switzerland follows at +12500 (125/1).
Group B is entirely long shots, with Sweden the shortest price, joining Finland at +6600. Also in Group B: Italy, Germany, Japan, and France.
Action on BetMGM’s Olympic women’s hockey futures mimics the men.
“After men’s hockey, women’s hockey will have more action than any other sport,” Cipollini said. “The USA is the main team being bet on, as they are decent favorites. Canada is the only other team taking any bets.”
Every team from Group A advances to the quarterfinals, along with the top three Group B teams.
But once this all shakes out, the expectation is for a USA-Canada gold-medal match on Feb. 19.
