Full List of FanDuel Legal States and Upcoming Launches

FanDuel has gone from daily fantasy staple to one of the main sportsbook apps in the country. With more states writing their own rules, the obvious question is: where can you actually use FanDuel Sportsbook right now, and what changed with Missouri going live?

If you’re in a FanDuel legal state, you don’t need a FanDuel promo code to get started. Just use our links and earn FanDuel Bonus Bets with a minimum wager when you join the sportsbook. From there, you get these welcome offers, depending on the state:

FanDuel U.S. Launch Timeline

FanDuel’s legal sportsbook story really starts in 2018, when New Jersey opened the door after PASPA fell. What began as a retail book at Meadowlands Racetrack turned into a full mobile rollout, and the pace hasn’t slowed much since.

Year by year, here’s how it spread:

  • 2018 - New Jersey: Meadowlands retail opened in July, the app followed statewide in September.
  • 2019 - Pennsylvania, West Virginia, Indiana: FanDuel moved into the mid-Atlantic and Midwest and quickly became a go-to option.
  • 2020 - Colorado, Illinois, Iowa, Tennessee: Four launches in one year, including Tennessee, one of the first mobile-only betting states.
  • 2021 - Michigan, Virginia, Arizona, Connecticut: FanDuel was on or near day one in each. Michigan also added online casino play.
  • 2022 - New York, Louisiana, Wyoming, Kansas, Maryland: New York was the headliner here. FanDuel got a big share of that market almost immediately.
  • 2023 - Ohio, Massachusetts, Kentucky: Live at midnight in Ohio on Jan. 1, then into Massachusetts and Kentucky in time for football.
  • 2024 - Vermont, North Carolina, Washington, D.C.: Vermont and North Carolina came early in the year; in April, FanDuel fully replaced GambetDC in the district.
  • 2025 - Missouri: Missouri joined the list on Dec. 1, 2025, when legal online sports betting launched statewide and FanDuel went live with its welcome offer of Bet $5 Get $300 in Bonus Bets!

Right now, FanDuel is live in 23 states plus Washington, D.C., with Missouri being the newest addition.

FanDuel is available across a wide chunk of the map: East Coast, Midwest, South, and out West. Some states offer both retail and mobile; others are online-only. You don’t have to live in a FanDuel state, but you do need to be physically inside one (and pass geolocation) to place a bet.

In seven years, FanDuel has gone from one book in New Jersey to a national footprint. Whenever a new state flips the switch, FanDuel is usually in that first launch wave.

Who Can Use FanDuel?

Even in legal states, there are a few guardrails:

  • You must be 21+ for the sportsbook (daily fantasy rules can differ and sometimes allow 18+).
  • You must be physically located in a FanDuel legal state when you place the bet.
  • You need a verified FanDuel account with your identity confirmed.

For instance, you can live in Texas and bet in Missouri, as long as you’re inside Missouri when you click “Place Bet.”

Where Will FanDuel Be Legal Next in the U.S.?

Most of the big early adopters are already live, so the pace of new launches has slowed. However, there are still a few huge dominoes left. First, Missouri. That one is now checked off as voters approved sports betting in 2024, regulators targeted December 1, 2025 for launch, and the market opened on schedule. FanDuel went live on day one with a Missouri-specific welcome bonus:

If you want more detail on that offer and the local setup, our FanDuel Missouri Promo Code review breaks down how it works and how it stacks up against other Missouri sports betting apps.

The big “not yet” states are Texas and California. Both would instantly become marquee markets, but both come with their own political and regulatory logjams. For example, Texas has had some momentum in the legislature, but the Senate hasn’t pushed anything across the finish line. In California, tribes control the conversation. Any serious sports betting plan has to run through them, and another ballot measure will probably take time.

So the short version:

  • Missouri sports betting with FanDuel is now live.
  • Texas and California are longer-term targets, but you can safely assume FanDuel will be ready the moment either state changes to “yes.”

Responsible Gambling

FanDuel’s expansion comes with a set of tools aimed at keeping things in check. Every legal version of the app has controls to help you manage your play, whether you’re new or you’ve been betting for years. Core responsible gambling tools include:

  • Deposit limits: Cap how much you can load in per day, week, or month.
  • Wager limits: Set ceilings on how much you can stake per bet or over a set period.
  • Time limits: Add session reminders or set time-based caps.
  • Time-outs and self-exclusion: Take a short break or fully block yourself for a longer window.

FanDuel also works with organizations like the National Council on Problem Gambling and follows state-level requirements around messaging and access to help.
