Chelsea hits the road for Premier League midweek action Tuesday to take on Southampton at St. Mary’s Stadium.

The Blues have seven points through four matches in wins over Leicester City and Everton to go with a draw with Tottenham. However, they haven’t been as dominant without key midfield players.

Meanwhile, the Saints also own a victory over the Foxes, plus they picked up a point against Leeds United to sit at four points.

The South Coast has been a tricky place to visit for Big Six sides in recent seasons, so this could be the same for Chelsea in this contest.

Southampton

After the embarrassing 4-1 loss at Tottenham, manager Ralph Hasenhüttl’s name was generating a lot of buzz to be the first coach to lose his job.

However, the Saints responded well in the following games, including a loss to Manchester United where they won the expected-goals battle.

The big question with the team is who's going to score the goals to keep the club in the English top flight, which could be Scottish forward Che Adams as long as he doesn’t leave in the transfer window.

By The Numbers

  • 2.2 — Southampton’s matches this season have averaged this many combined xG per 90 minutes, according to fbref.com.
  • 2 — In home games last season against top-six teams, the Saints were only defeated in a pair of those fixtures.

Chelsea

While this hasn’t been a terrible start, Chelsea hasn't been able to control matches without midfield general N'Golo Kanté, who picked up an injury in the draw against Tottenham.

Manager Thomas Tuchel has also been without central midfielder Mateo Kovačić, but he did make his first appearance of the season as a substitute in the win last weekend.

With Conor Gallagher picking up a red card in the previous match, Tuchel is running out of options in the middle of the park.

By The Numbers

  • 0.82 — Chelsea allowed less this number of xG per match on the road last season against teams that finished in the bottom half of the table.
  • 6 — In those same games, the Blues kept a clean sheet in 60 percent of their league fixtures.

Betting Analysis & Pick

In a match where I’m not expecting to see many goals, there are multiple bets I think have great value to pull together into a Single Game Parlay.

That said, I'm using Southampton getting two goals on the spreadline and pairing it with Both Teams to Score (No) and the total falling under 5.5 goals at +278 odds via FanDuel as my top selection.

The Saints covered this spread in all but one home game against Big 6 clubs last season, while the totals in those fixtures finished with under 5.5 goals in five out of six outings.

This is also a pair of sides that aren’t getting consistent results out of their frontmen, which could help us with the total and the Both Teams To Score bet.

The Pick: Single Game Parlay — Southampton +2 | Total Under 5.5 Goals | Both Teams to Score — No (+278)
