Sabalenka is the best tennis player in the world. She comes into this after a missed clay court swing, losing in the quarterfinals in Madrid to Hailey Baptiste and exiting early in Rome to Sorana Cîrstea.
The only question mark is her physical condition, given the medical attention she required in Rome, but I believe she will be close to her maximum potential.
She knows she needs to start the tournament strong to conserve energy and avoid looking vulnerable to her opponents.
Therefore, I expect her to press hard on Tuesday.
Jessica Bouzas Maneiro is not weak, but she is having a modest year. She arrives here after the tournament in Rabat, where she lost clearly to Petra Marcinko in two fairly unbalanced sets, dropping her serve with ease.
We are likely to see a similar outcome on Tuesday.
I predict Sabalenka will win efficiently, keeping the game count low.
Pick: Under 12.5 Total Games Won by Aryna Sabalenka

We are in for an all-American clash on Tuesday in Paris as 22-year-old reigning-champion Gauff will square off with Townsend in the first round at Roland Garros.
While Gauff enters the matchup as a -900 favorite and in far better form than her American counterpart, the two have met just once previously, with Townsend coming out on top.
That said, their previous encounter happened seven years ago when Gauff was just 15 years old. The match also was played on Charleston’s green clay, which is a far quicker surface than that of the French Open’s classic red clay.
Townsend implements a very aggressive style with a serve-and-volley type approach, which often results in the 30-year-old American rushing the net to catch her opponents off guard.
While Townsend has a very impressive forehand that frequently overpowers her opponents, her style of play fits hard courts far more than clay.
Gauff boasts unbelievable speed and athleticism on the baseline, with an uncanny ability to track down balls. She displayed this in tremendous fashion on her way to winning her first Roland Garros title in 2025.
Though Townsend’s power-forehand neutralizes many of her opponents, Gauff is on another level and is one of the best returners in the world.
The American youngster uses very heavy topspin in her return game, which should definitely limit the effectiveness of Townsend’s aggressive charging-the-net style.
While Gauff has already established herself as a top clay player — evident through her Roland Garros breakthrough just last season — Townsend does not have a great history on the surface, and its slow pace really does not align with her power-approach.
Despite Townsend winning the only previous meeting between the two, Gauff is on another level and I expect her to dominate this match.
Gauff is a heavy favorite, which should make it far more challenging to extract betting value.
That said, I feel great backing Gauff to win in straight sets, despite its rather steep -230 price tag.
Pick: Coco Gauff to Win in Straight Sets (2-0)
