Sinner vs Cerundolo Preview, Prediction
By: Tudor Cosma
Jannik Sinner Betting Preview
Sinner is a 24-year-old Italian who's currently ranked World No. 1.
Sinner is dominating the men’s circuit in a fashion rarely seen before, aided in part by Carlos Alcaraz's injury, which will keep him out until the North American hard-court season.
However, even if Alcaraz were healthy, the outcome might well be the same. While we will never know for sure, Sinner’s current level of play is nearly impossible for opponents to counter. He has very few weaknesses, and his streak of 30 consecutive victories firmly validates his absolute dominance in the ATP.
This season, he has swept every Masters tournament — Indian Wells, Miami, Monte Carlo, Madrid and Rome — becoming the youngest player in history to hold all nine Masters trophies in his career.
He also became only the second player after Rafael Nadal to win all three clay-court Masters events in a single season. Furthermore, he holds the record for the most consecutive victories in Masters competitions, becoming the first in history to win six such tournaments in a row.
Consequently, Sinner has been virtually unmatchable this season.
The major question mark surrounding him is fatigue. After all, he's been playing almost non-stop lately. While his opponents haven't pushed him too hard and he's rarely dropped a set, physical and mental exhaustion inevitably accumulates.
For this reason, although he's the overwhelming favorite to win this Grand Slam, I believe he'll face a fair share of difficulties.
Fortunately for him, he has an accessible draw: a victory today leads to a meeting with Martin Landaluce or Vit Kopriva, while the fourth round promises a match against Luciano Darderi, Matteo Berrettini or Arthur Rinderknech.
Under normal circumstances, none of these opponents should be able to defeat him. The quarterfinals could prove more complicated against Ben Shelton or Stefanos Tsitsipas, while the semifinals will likely feature the other Cerundolo brother (Francisco) or Learner Tien.
While every opponent must be respected, such a draw points to an open road to the final.
Sinner possesses numerous elite assets, led by what is arguably the best serve in the world, making it incredibly difficult to break him. He backs this up with an ironclad mental game and highly precise groundstrokes from both the forehand and backhand wings.
He's rightfully nicknamed "the robot," as his game features very few errors.
Last season was highly successful, highlighted by Grand Slam trophies at the Australian Open and Wimbledon. He lost the final here last year to Alcaraz despite holding three consecutive match points.
The new season has been astonishing, featuring five Masters trophies. His biggest disappointment was an Australian Open semifinal loss to Novak Djokovic (2-3), but the two remain the favorites to set up a rematch in the final here.
Sinner opened his campaign with a straight-sets victory over Clement Tabur; he didn't necessarily flash his absolute best, but he's clearly trying to conserve energy for the second week.
Juan Manuel Cerundolo Betting Preview
Cerundolo is a 24-year-old Argentine, currently ranked World No. 54. Cerundolo is currently sitting at his career-high ranking and is a player on the rise.
Naturally, he cannot yet be compared to his brother, Francisco, who enters this tournament as a favorite to reach the semifinals, but the gap between them is shrinking—especially on clay.
Juan is relatively short at 1.83m and is a textbook clay-courter. While his serve isn't overwhelming, he has improved it noticeably of late, meaning he no longer surrenders breaks with ease. He matches this with excellent depth and consistency from the baseline.
Consequently, he has successfully transitioned from a Challenger-level regular to a competitor on the cusp of the world's top 50. The main challenge ahead of him will be maintaining consistency at this elite level.
Last season met expectations, featuring runner-up finishes at the Braunschweig Challenger and Gstaad, alongside a hard-court title at the Guangzhou Challenger.
He also recorded a marquee clay-court victory over Casper Ruud. The new season has been productive, highlighted by a recent title at the Bordeaux Challenger.
While he hasn’t made deep runs in top-tier ATP events yet — suffering a heavy defeat to Darderi in Madrid and a tight 6-7, 5-7 loss to Cristian Garin in Rome — he showed excellent form in his opening match here, defeating Jacob Fearnley in straight sets.
He rides a six-match winning streak across all levels, which will give him plenty of confidence.
Sinner vs Cerundolo Predictions, Betting Analysis
Sinner is an incredible competitor, achieving things never before seen in the history of the sport. He enters this match on a 30-match winning streak, having swept every single clay-court event this season.
While his draw here is highly favorable, we must take potential fatigue into account. He has played non-stop recently, and his energy reserves cannot be limitless.
In his opening match against Tabur, it was evident he did the bare minimum required to secure a 3-0 win, and he is unlikely to overextend himself on Thursday either.
Furthermore, the match is scheduled during the day under intense, punishing heat. Sinner has historically struggled in extremely hot playing conditions, which leaves the door open for occasional lapses.
Cerundolo is in great rhythm, riding a six-match win streak that includes solid victories over players like Roman Andre Burruchaga and Raphael Collignon. The Argentine is steady enough to put up a highly competitive set and keep the score respectable.
I expect Cerundolo to cover this generous game line.
Pick: Juan Manuel Cerundolo +10.5 Game Spread
