Swan vs Keys Preview, Prediction

By: Tudor Cosma

Katie Swan Betting Preview

Swan is a 27-year-old Briton who's ranked 196th in the WTA rankings.

She's not a household name in world tennis, as she's never been in the top 100.

Even so, Swan shouldn't be underestimated. She's tall and at home in this match. Swan is also a very solid athlete on grass, a surface that she knows how to manage.

Unfortunately, it's difficult for her to be consistent for a whole year and collect points to debut in the top 100. A victory on Thursday would be extraordinary in view of this goal, but it's unlikely.

Last season was just OK for Swan. She earned the ITF W35 Wagga Wagga and ITF W50 Brisbane titles, but these are very small tournaments.

This new season has been about the same for her. She recently has two trophies on hard courts, but those also came on the ITF circuit.

On grass, she played at the WTA 125K Ilkley, where she reached the quarterfinals before having to retire against Ashlyn Krueger.

Her current physical form wasn't known entering this tournament. However, in the first round, she looked good and easily got past Irina-Camelia Begu, a veteran on tour.

It remains to be seen what tactics she'll adopt to stay competitive on Thursday.

Madison Keys Betting Preview

Keys is a 31-year-old American who's ranked 22nd in the WTA rankings.

She's one of the most important tennis players of her generation, as she has a Grand Slam title, but has left the impression that she could do much more.

This isn't necessarily a criticism because potential often doesn't translate into reality and there are many variables that come into play, including opponents, mental peace and motivation.

People saw Keys as a future great champion and she was being compared to United States legend Lindsay Davenport.

Keys is one of the tallest players on tour. She has one of the best serves, and she can dominate anyone from the baseline. She doesn't like prolonged rallies, so she hits hard and at an angle, often looking for direct winning points.

Under these conditions, it's normal that her game would be very suitable for hard courts, but she also performs well on grass.

She reached a Grand Slam final about a decade ago at the US Open. However, she lost there to Sloane Stephens. Some interesting results followed, but also a rather sudden and long-lasting decline in which she couldn't find herself, saying that the pressure was too great and she could no longer cope with it.

She found maturity and peace, both on the court and in her personal life, where she married her coach Bjorn Fratangelo.

During this healthy mental background, Keys won the Australian Open. She hasn't notched another Grand Slam title since then, but Keys remains near the top and a dangerous opponent at any Grand Slam.

Last season was excellent for Keys, as she won the Aussie Open, notched a title in Adelaide and reached the semifinals in Indian Wells.

This season hasn't been as strong. At the Australian Open, she was stopped in the fourth round. She reached the semifinals in Charleston on green clay and the fourth round at Roland Garros.

On grass, she looks excellent, though, as she won Eastbourne without dropping a set.

Her dream form continued here, although in the first round, she struggled a bit with Kayla Day. She lost the first set, but her maturity and self-confidence were visible while she controlled the final two.

I expect her to play better on Thursday.

Swan vs Keys Predictions, Betting Analysis

Swan has never been in the world's top 100, but she's playing at home in front of the fans, so she'll be motivated to potentially earn a set off of Keys.

Meanwhile, Keys is coming off the Eastbourne trophy last week, so she's in good form and has great self-confidence, with her serve being her basic weapon.

I'm taking two value bets in this match — Keys to hit five-plus aces at +125 on bet365 and Swan to win a set at +300 at DraftKings.

Pick: Madison Keys 5+ Aces (+125, bet365) | Katie Swan to Win a Set (+300, DraftKings)
