Sierra vs Gauff Preview, Prediction
By: Tudor Cosma
Solana Sierra Betting Preview
Sierra is a 22-year-old Argentinian who's ranked 56th in the WTA rankings.
She's currently in the best position of her career, one that she'll improve on in the future. I think she can stabilize in the world top 50, although at the moment she still seems inconsistent, oscillating from tournament to tournament.
This is normal if we look at her age, as she's very young. In the future, we should see progress in her game, although there are many variables here. What we know for sure at the moment is that she's talented and has some assets.
Although she's a clay player at heart and plays better on slow courts, she's tall and strong with an efficient serve.
Favorable results can also appear on fast courts from time to time, including grass, as we saw last year in this complex. However, problems remain.
Last season was a pretty good one for Sierra (one that was in line with expectations). She didn't have any major, impressive performances, but she earned a title at ITF W75 Bellinzona, reached Round 4 at Wimbledon and notched a title at WTA 125K Mallorca on clay.
The new season has been similar for Sierra, with a semifinal appearance at WTA 125K Manila, a Round 4 berth in Madrid and a Round 3 appearance at Roland Garros, where she lost 0-6 0-6 to Sorana Cîrstea.
On grass, she played in 's-Hertogenbosch, where she lost in two short sets to Caty McNally. Then in Homburg, she managed to take a set against Qinwen Zheng. Zheng is in a very complicated moment in her career, though, as her game is very modest.
Her serve didn't work at all in Round 1 at Wimbledon, as in the match against Anna Bondar, she offered up 22 break points and lost serve eight times.
If she serves the same way on Wednesday, we'll see a lightning match.
Coco Gauff Betting Preview
Gauff is a 22-year-old American who's ranked seventh in the WTA.
She remains a great champion and one of the best athletes on the circuit, even if this season has been below expectations.
However, Gauff has always been very inconsistent, alternating good tournaments with exceptional ones. The fact that in the first six months of the year she hasn't won any titles is worrying, but she can always pick up her pace for the remainder of the season.
It's unlikely to happen here at Wimbledon, though, as this is her weakest surface. But knowing Gauff, she can surprise. She seems like a veteran on the WTA Tour because she debuted at the age of 15 in these very important tournaments.
She captured the attention of the public right away, being considered a future great champion since then. There were voices that even called her the new Serena Williams, which was exaggerated and put added pressure on her shoulders.
Even so, with all this pressure, Gauff managed to progress healthily and developed a remarkable maturity in thinking. The trophies also came: at the US Open and then last year, at Roland Garros.
These performances only confirmed what we already knew: that she has immense potential and can win many more Grand Slam before she retires. She has yet to reach world No. 1, but she was close in 2024.
Gauff has an interesting game, but her serve sometimes betrays her, as she can commit a large number of double faults. She hired a biomechanics specialist, but something still isn't right with her serve.
In addition, her forehand is sometimes vulnerable.
As mentioned above, grass is definitely her weakest surface. Her movement on grass is deficient, and her spin shots don't help her much.
Last season was solid for Gauff, with trophies at Roland Garros and in Wuhan and finals in Madrid and Rome.
This new season has been shaky, though. She reached the semifinals in Dubai and the finals in Miami and Rome, so it's not all negative for the American. However, she doesn't have any trophies and the overall results have been below expectations.
At Roland Garros, where she was defending her title, she lost in the third round to Anastasia Potapova in a match that she should've won.
She didn't recover on grass, either. She played only one tournament, in Berlin, and there she was clearly defeated, 6-1 3-6 2-6, by Paula Badosa.
In her first match at Wimbledon, against Korpatsch, she was much more solid. She quickly imposed herself, and didn't even offer up a break point. I'm sure that will give her great self confidence moving forward.
Sierra vs Gauff Predictions, Betting Analysis
Sierra played very poorly in the first round and was very lucky in her match with Bondar. Not only did she save two consecutive match points on her opponent's serve, but nothing went well with her game — especially her serve.
Recently, on grass, she lost 0-2 to McNally, and at Roland Garros, she was defeated 0-6 0-6 by Cirstea. The form just isn't there.
Gauff is far from a grass court specialist and isn't considered a favorite to win the trophy in London. However, her first match here shows us that she's progressing on this surface.
In Round 1, not only did she easily pass Korpatsch, she didn't even allow a break point.
I'm expecting a blowout.
Pick: Coco Gauff to Win 2-0
