US Open Predictions — Day 5

Tommy Paul vs Nuno Borges Odds

Tommy Paul Odds-525
Nuno Borges Odds+380
Over/Under35.5 (-115o / -120u)

It was a solid debut for Tommy Paul, who breezed past Elmer Moller in the first round (6-3, 6-3, 6-1), not even facing a break point. It bodes well for the American, who, despite being 2-3 since his French Open quarterfinals loss, has a 14-7 record on hard courts in 2025.

He's looking to regain the consistency and power that became a staple of his game at home, and improve on back-to-back fourth-round appearances in 2023 and '24.

Nuno Borges arrives in similarly shaky form, having not made it past the first round since the Toronto Masters 1000. He showcased perhaps his best form since then in his debut at Flushing Meadows, comfortably beating Brandon Holt (6-4, 6-2, 6-3).

Paul and Borges haven't faced each other, but the context gives us enough clues to make a prediction.

Borges is a terrific defensive player, but on a hard court and against an aggressive Paul, it'll be hard for him to make gains.

Pick: Tommy Paul to Win 3-0 (+125 via DraftKings)

Lorenzo Musetti vs David Goffin Odds

Lorenzo Musetti Odds-650
David Goffin Odds+450
Over/Under34.5 (-115o / -115u)

Lorenzo Musetti survived a tough opener against Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard. It required four sets to push past the big server, which is what we anticipated.

It was only Musetti's second win since the French Open, but the score hid the fact that he looked very much in control. He didn't face a single break point in the entire match, a positive turn for the Italian.

It was a similar story for David Goffin, who battled over three hours and 13 minutes against another big-serving Frenchman in Quentin Halys. It was 6-7, 6-4, 6-3, 7-5 for Goffin, who took his first win in four hard-court matches. His 2025 record on fast courts is now 5-11.

Musetti leads the head-to-head tally 3-1, but he's actually 1-1 on hard courts, with Goffin taking their most recent clash, a Shanghai Masters 1000 second-round matchup in 2024.

The Italian has gone a long way since then, but I feel the total is a tad low as it could very easily go to four sets.

Pick: Musetti Moneyline & Over 34.5 Games (+118 via DraftKings)
