2024 Genesis Invitational Odds & Tiger Woods Odds

The PGA Tour heads to Pacific Palisades, California for the 2024 Genesis Invitational at Riviera Country Club. The Genesis Invitational, which began as the Los Angeles Open back in 1926, will be the third Signature Event on the PGA Tour this season, but unlike the prior two Signature Events, the 2024 Genesis Invitational will feature a 36-hole cut to the top 50 players and ties (along with any players within 10 shots of the lead).

Tournament host Tiger Woods makes his 2024 debut this week and opened on Monday morning at bet365 at +22500 to win his 83rd career PGA Tour event and has since shortened to 175-1. The 15-time major championship winner has not played in an official event since he withdrew from the Masters Tournament last April.

The Genesis Invitational is a rare tournament that Woods has never won in his career over 15 prior starts as his best results have been a loss in a playoff in 1998 and a tie for second in 1999. His last top-10 finish at Riviera was a tie for seventh here in 2004.

Unsurprisingly, Woods and all other golfers are looking up on the oddsboard at outright betting favorite Scottie Scheffler once again this week at +700 after opening at +800. Scheffler put on another impressive ball-striking display this past weekend at TPC Scottsdale as he led the field in Strokes Gained (SG): Approach and was second in SG: Off the Tee as he finished in a tie for third.

Scheffler will make his sixth start at The Genesis Invitational this week and has finished in the top 20 each of the last three years, with his best finish being a T7 in 2022.

Rory McIlroy opened just behind Scheffler at +850 to win in Pacific Palisades this weekend and has since drifted to +1200 as of Wednesday afternoon. The Northern Irishman has appeared at The Genesis Invitational seven times in his career with five top-20 finishes, including a career-best tie for fourth in this event in 2019. McIlroy is making just his second start on Tour this year after he finished in a tie for 66th at the shortened AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am two weeks ago.

McIlroy took last week's WM Phoenix Open off, and Nick Taylor prevailed in epic fashion to win the event in a playoff over Charlie Hoffman as the Canadian birdied three of his final four holes to force the playoff then birdied the 18th hole two times in the playoff to defeat Hoffman. Taylor opened this week at +9000 to win in back-to-back starts and has drifted slightly to 100-1.

Viktor Hovland at +1300 and Xander Schauffele at +1500 are the final two golfers who opened at 15-1 or shorter to win The Genesis Invitational this week. Hovland and Schauffele have since seen their odds shift to +1700 as of Wednesday afternoon.

Both Hovland (T58) and Schauffele (T54) had disappointing results in their most recent starts at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am and were initially in the field for last week's WM Phoenix Open before they withdrew on Monday.

Hovland has a stellar course history as he has never finished lower than 20th here and has two top-five finishes in his three starts at Riviera. Schauffele has played The Genesis Invitational six times and finished between ninth and 33rd all six times.

Last year's Genesis Invitational champion, Jon Rahm, unfortunately is not in the field to defend his title this week after defecting the PGA Tour for LIV Golf.

Some other notables in the field this week and their outright odds include Max Homa (+2200), Patrick Cantlay (+1900), Ludvig Aberg (+2400), Justin Thomas (+1700), Collin Morikawa (+1900) and Jordan Spieth (+3000).

2024 Genesis Invitational Course Preview

Riviera Country Club is a 7,322-yard par-71 designed in 1927 by George Thomas and renovated by Ben Crenshaw and Bill Coore in 1992 and also renovated by Tom Fazio several times. Riviera will host the 2028 Summer Olympics, 2026 U.S. Women's Open and the 2031 U.S. Open.

The Poa annua greens this week are rolling at a 12.5 on the stimpmeter, and this is the fifth straight tournament on the PGA Tour featuring at least a mix of Poa Annua on the greens. The average green size of 7,500 square feet is the fourth-largest on the PGA Tour and the second-largest so far this season (behind only the Plantation Course at Kapalua at 8,722 square feet).

The tees this week are Ryegrass overseed, and fairways are an average of 27 yards in width. The two-inch rough and fairways at Riviera feature Kikuyu grass, which is a thick surface originally from East Africa that allows optimal lies from tightly mown grass on the fairways but also provides a stiff challenge in the longer rough.

Historically, over 45% of approach shots come from 150-200 yards, so golfers will need to be strong on approach from this range with short to mid irons.

Strokes Gained (SG): Approach and SG: Putting have been the most correlated metrics with SG: Total at The Genesis Invitational. Driving Distance has historically had a higher correlation with SG: Total than Driving Accuracy at Riviera.
