Astros vs Orioles MLB Betting Preview

Every metric seems to ask us to fade Lance McCullers Jr. He had a difficult comeback last season, sporting a 6.51 ERA, 1.81 WHIP and 5.77 FIP across 55 and 1/3 innings after a three-year absence, and 2026 isn't looking any better.

The Astros SP has a .318 BABIP and a 1.50 WHIP so far. Aside from his debut outing against the Red Sox, he has struggled in every start.

His issues with command remain, so only in that regard, he's still the same pitcher, but apart from the walks, he's also getting pummeled consistently. McCullers has allowed homers in three consecutive starts, with four in total.

He will face an Orioles team that ranks 9th in wRC+ with 104, a rating that goes up to 107 against right-handed pitchers.

Astros vs Orioles Pick, Betting Analysis

Baltimore does better at home, not only record-wise but also in wRC+, ranking 7th in the majors with a 121 rating at Camden Yards.

McCullers also has worse splits on the road, with a .313 opponent batting average and a 9.72 ERA compared to .254 and 5.29 at home. He also allowed a .333 average and a 6.75 ERA in his only day game this season.

In his last four starts, McCullers has allowed three or more earned runs in each one, so we'll bank on that trend continuing against this Orioles lineup.

Pick: Orioles 1H Team Total Over 2.5 Runs (+105, DraftKings)
