Tony Sartori’s Dodgers vs Brewers Preview
Los Angeles hands the ball to left-hander Blake Snell in Game 1 of the NLCS. There is no denying that Snell is one of the best pitchers in the National League, which is why the Dodgers are favored in this matchup.
That said, the price is an overadjustment to that fact, especially when you consider Snell’s track record against Milwaukee. Through three meetings, the southpaw is 1-2 with a 5.79 ERA and a 1.36 WHIP.
Even if Snell pitches well, the Dodgers’ biggest concern in this series is their bullpen. This is where the Brewers boast the biggest advantage, and it is ultimately why I believe they will win this series.
This season, Los Angeles’ relief staff ranked in the bottom half of the league in ERA, FIP and xFIP.
By comparison, Milwaukee’s bullpen finished sixth in ERA, fifth in FIP and 10th in xFIP. The Brewers’ pitching situation remains murky for Game 1, but manager Pat Murphy hinted at one of two scenarios, both of which revolve around this bullpen.
On Sunday, Murphy alluded to Milwaukee going with a bullpen game to open the series, with either Jose Quintana or Quinn Priester pitching in a bulk role.
Either way, the Brewers should be in good hands. Quintana pitched three innings in a bulk role in Game 3 of the NLDS and didn't give up a run.
Meanwhile, Priester has been strong all season, despite a hiccup in his performance last round. Through 29 appearances, Priester posted a 13-3 record with a 3.32 ERA and a 1.24 WHIP.
Dodgers vs Brewers Prediction, Betting Analysis
Priester’s analytics were equally impressive. This season, he finished in the top half of the league in xERA, xBA, barrel rate and hard-hit rate.
The hitting matchup is essentially even, as both teams finished in the top three in runs scored per game. Add in home-field advantage, and it’s worth taking a shot on Milwaukee in the opening game of the NLCS.
Pick: Brewers moneyline (+130 | Play to +125)
Moneyline
As mentioned, I'm betting the Brewers moneyline.
Run Line (Spread)
I like the Brewers to cover, but find more value in just taking the outright moneyline price.
Over/Under
I lean toward the under, but don't want to fade either lineup.
