Story: Expect Pitching Duel on Friday Night
The Reds will host the Marlins on Friday night in the first of a three-game homestand at Great American Ball Park in Cincinnati.
Below, I will break down Friday’s contest and further provide a “same-game-parlay” (SGP) betting angle that you can take when wagering on this National League clash.
Leg 1: NRFI
For the first leg, I favor backing no runs to be scored in the first inning (NRFI) in a pitching matchup featuring two scorching arms in the Reds’ Chase Burns and Marlins’ Sandy Alcantara.
In 25 starts in 2026, Alcantara has been very effective, recording a 3.52 ERA along with an efficient 1.17 WHIP, both of which rank inside the top 30 amongst starting pitchers.
The former NL Cy Young winner may just be the hottest arm in all of baseball over the last six weeks after seven consecutive quality starts.
Like Alcantara, Burns is having a phenomenal 2026 campaign.
In just his second season in the Major Leagues, the Reds 23-year-old has undoubtedly been one of baseball’s hottest pitchers, with his 2.61 ERA ranking 7th in the entire league.
The right-hander has been remarkably efficient as well, entering this showdown with a 1.12 WHIP throughout his 124 frames of work.
Given how hot both starters are heading into this contest, I feel confident in a scoreless first inning of a game where runs should come at a premium.
Leg 2: F5 Under
While I typically prefer taking a more value-based approach when constructing my SGPs, my confidence that Friday’s matchup will be a pitching duel makes me willing to back a second parlay leg on that same narrative.
In its last five games, Cincinnati has scored just two runs per contest, which is definitely concerning as they are set to face Alcantara, MLB’s hottest pitcher right now.
Since the start of July, the Marlins ace has posted an impressive 1.88 ERA over 48 innings.
While the Miami offense enters this game in far better form than that of the Reds, I still have a ton of faith in Burns delivering another fantastic outing.
For a Marlins lineup that is striking out more than eight times per game in 2026, I expect Burns’ elite punch-out prowess to be a massive difference maker.
In his 124 IP this season, the Reds pitcher has recorded 143 strikeouts, which ranks 17th amongst starters.
Burns’ 10.4 strikeout rate (K%) also ranks ninth in all of baseball among that same group.
Given the exceptional form of both SPs, I feel great backing the under on the first five innings, which should round out our SGP quite nicely.
