On Thursday, we take our attention to Great American ballpark for a matchup between two National League Central rivals the Pittsburgh Pirates and Cincinnati Reds.

The Reds will be sending out Veteran Mike Minor. In 2022 he has been very proficient at 5-1 to the NRFI, but Minor is an extremely slept-on NRFI pitcher. Since 2020 across three teams he is an impressive 31-7 to the NRFI.

Here is how the 34-year-old veteran has done in the past against these Pirates hitters:

  • Bryan Reynolds: 1-for-6
  • Daniel Vogelbach: 2-for-7
  • Michael Chavis: 0-for-2

The Pirates as a team are on a 9-1 NRFI tear of late. They are also 30-8 to the NRFI when on the road this season hitting at a 79% rate.

The Pirates will counter with rookie Rosany Contreras. In his rookie campaign, he has been stellar boasting a 9-0 NRFI record. Against 27 first-inning batters, he has issued just two walks showing great control for his age, and has held batters to a respectable first-inning .185 average.

He has not faced any of these Reds hitters leaving the unfamiliarity advantage to Contreras.

The Reds as a team are also on a NRFI tear going 10-0 to the NRFI in their last 10 games. This has given them the 26th ranked first inning batting average in July going 2-for-19.

Bet on Minor to continue what he has been doing in the first inning in his career, and for Contreras to continue his hot start in his rookie campaign. Take the NRFI between the Pirates and the Reds.

As always, six outs to glory …
