Yankees vs Blue Jays MLB Betting Preview

New York Yankees Betting Preview

The Yankees have managed to tread water in playing to a record of 32-30 since Aaron Judge went on the IL, despite holding a wRC+ of 88 and the league's lowest batting average in that span. Since the All-Star break, their pitching staff has recorded an ERA of 2.86, which has powered the team to some success despite continued struggles at the plate.

Gerrit Cole has been one of the many Yankees arms to offer good form of late, as he's pitched to an ERA of 1.45 while winning his last three starts. Throughout his last 58 and 2/3 innings, Cole has pitched to an xERA of 3.68 and an xFIP of 3.18. He also holds an excellent 24.2% strikeout-minus-walk rate in that span and a Pitching+ rating of 106.

New York's bullpen has also been in strong form of late, as over the last 30 days it has pitched to an ERA of 2.84 with an xFIP of 3.94.

Cody Bellinger and Giancarlo Stanton also remain on the IL, which has obviously also contributed to New York's recent struggles at the plate. Luis Garcia Jr. has been fairly quiet at the plate after homering in his Yankee debut on August 3rd but has still slugged .452 during his brief period with the team, while top prospect Spencer Jones has slugged .489 over the last 14 games.

Toronto Blue Jays Betting Preview

The Blue Jays have scratched out five straight series wins while playing to a record of 11-6, which has breathed life into their hopes of claiming the final A.L. Wildcard berth (currently +500 to make playoffs). While they have had a notable offensive uptick amid a tough schedule of late, the offense still ranks 29th with a wRC+ of 79 since the All-Star break, as Alejandro Kirk has still been the only one out of the team's bigger names to offer overly strong production at the plate.

Vladimir Guerrero Jr. remains just one of three qualified batters yet to hit a home run at home this season. He has also hit just .171 against cutters and breaking balls, a weakness that opposing pitchers appear increasingly willing to exploit. While Guerrero has historically fared extremely well against Cole, posting a 1.044 OPS across 35 at-bats, those career numbers may not carry much weight given that he's not been the same batter we have typically seen thus far this season.

Shane Bieber has been one of the more inconsistent starters in MLB this season, and that trend has continued of late, as three of his last five starts have been excellent, while he was highly ineffective in the other two. As his stuff is not remotely overpowering at this point in his career, he's been highly reliant on excellent command and sequencing to find success.

Throughout Bieber's last 25 innings, he holds an ERA of 3.96, despite a disastrous outing in Washington in which he walked six batters in the first inning and recorded just two outs.

The Blue Jays bullpen has pitched to an ERA of 3.97 over the last 30 days, and in high-leverage situations holds an ERA of 2.84 since July 1st. Louis Varland, Tyler Rogers and Mason Fluharty are all well-rested entering this game, so Toronto will be well situated for the final third of the game if Bieber is to author a solid outing.

Yankees vs Blue Jays Pick, Betting Analysis

Though the Blue Jays have shown some signs of the 2025 DNA of late, it's still a fairly minuscule sample of improved offensive effectiveness, and their recent run of success has still had more to do with strong pitching and some success in close games. Cole has a good opportunity to author a quality start in this matchup, while the Yankees bullpen has been in great form of late.

While Bieber's form has been very hit-or-miss of late, he gets a good matchup Friday versus a Yankees side that has been among the league's worst versus righties for a sample of nearly three months, and if the game is to remain mildly competitive New York will face some tough arms after Bieber exits the game.

At -120 or better there looks to be value backing this matchup to feature under 8 runs.

Pick: Under 8 (-115, bet365 | Play to -120)
