Pirates vs Athletics MLB Betting Preview
Mitch Keller has allowed 29 earned runs over his past 30 innings. He’s most recently faced the Twins, Braves, and Dodgers, tossing four innings in each start while allowing 18 earned runs with 12 strikeouts to eight walks.
He now has to start at Sutter Health on a 90-degree day with 15-MPH winds blowing out toward left field against an A’s lineup that is mashing and should continue to mash (projected 120 wRC+ against right-handed pitching).
Also, three of the A’s top four hitters are lefties, while Keller has prominent splits (his K-BB drops by 4% against LHPs compared to RHPs, while his wOBA allowed jumps 40 points).
This feels like a potential disaster scenario for Mitch.
I don’t know much about Jack Perkins, but I know he has significant reverse splits. In his career, he’s running a 22% K-BB, 3.50 xFIP, and .275 wOBA allowed against lefties, compared to 9% K-BB, 5.20 xFIP, and .330 wOBA allowed to righties.
Considering four of the top six hitters in Pittsburgh’s lineup are lefties, and there are three more switch-hitters, this could be a really good matchup for Perkins.

Pirates vs Athletics Pick, Betting Analysis
I hope to survive the A’s bullpen and defense, but the Pirates aren’t much better in either department — their bullpen might be worse.
This could be a high-scoring, high-variance matchup, but I really like the matchup for the home side.
Pick: A's ML (-150 or Better)
