Story: Back Ronald Acuña Jr on Friday Night
The Braves will host the Rockies on Friday evening in the first of a three-game homestand at Truist Park in Atlanta.
30-year-old right-hander Grant Holmes will take the mound for the Braves, while Colorado will trot out righty veteran Tomoyuki Sugano.
Below, I will break down Friday’s National League clash and offer a same-game-parlay betting angle you can use when wagering on the action.
Braves -1.5
For the first leg of our Friday SGP, I favor backing the Braves to cover their -1.5 runline in a matchup where I heavily favor Atlanta to reign supreme.
In 23 outings, Sugano has largely struggled, with the two-time NPB Sawamura Award winner having recorded a 4.96 ERA along with a 1.32 WHIP across 121.2 frames in 2026
While you could certainly attribute much of Sugano’s poor form to the hitter-friendly ballpark conditions at Coors Field, the first-year Rockie has recorded similar metrics at home (5.00 ERA) as on the road (4.91 ERA).
In addition to Tomoyuki’s ineffectiveness on the mound, the Japan product will face arguably the toughest lineup in all of baseball in the Atlanta Braves, who are absolutely loaded from one to nine.
Ronald Acuña Jr Over 2.5 HRR
For the second leg of my Friday SGP, I favor backing Braves’ superstar slugger Ronald Acuña Jr to exceed an alternate 2.5 HRR (Hits + Runs + RBIs) mark in a game I expect the Braves’ runners to frequent the basepaths quite often.
While Ronnie has yet to have faced Sugano, I expect a major matchup edge for Atlanta’s young phenom largely due to Sugano’s requiring soft contact to retire opposing hitters, which is a potential recipe for disaster matched up with a batter of Acuña’s caliber.
Though Sugano actually boasts some impressive command of his arsenal with a relatively low 2.8 BB/9, his inability to miss bats has left him susceptible to heavy damage, particularly versus a raw power hitter profile like that of the Braves’ star.
Colorado’s right-hander enters Friday’s contest in very poor form, having just been shelled in consecutive outings, getting tagged for 12 runs over his last eight frames versus the Guardians and Dodgers.
Given Tomoyuki’s pitch-to-contact style via filling the strike zone as opposed to blowing away hitters with top-tier velocity offerings, a high exit-velocity slugger like Acuña Jr should be very well-positioned to capitalize on mistakes over the plate, and particularly more so if he hunts early-count fastballs.
In a game where Atlanta should score many runs, I am expecting a massive game at the plate from Acuña Jr and am very confident he clears 2.5 HRR, which should round out our value SGP quite nicely.
