Giants vs Diamondbacks MLB Betting Preview

I'm taking two bets in this game:

  • Diamondbacks ML -120 (Action PRO projects Arizona -148)
  • Under 8.5 (Action PRO project 7.93)

Ryne Nelson is the main reason I’m leaning toward Arizona here.

He looked like he was breaking out last year, but his results this season haven’t matched the peripherals. His xERA sits nearly a run lower than his ERA, which means he's a regression candidate.

The damage has been driven by homers — he has a career‑worst HR/FB Rate — and his groundball rate has cratered to about 25% compared to roughly 40% for his career.

However, his strikeout rate is up and his walk rate is down, so the peripherals suggest better outcomes are coming. I’m banking on that regression showing up today.

On the other side, Landen Roupp looks like he's taking a real step forward for the Giants. He has posted a sizable strikeout bump and is inducing grounders on over half of balls in play, which makes him plenty playable.

Giants vs Diamondbacks Pick, Betting Analysis

Bullpens swing this one further in Arizona’s favor, but they're both in a good spot. The D‑backs’ relief corps has been surprisingly effective, and San Francisco saved several key arms in yesterday’s blowout. That could matter late.

Combine two starters who profile as somewhat sneaky with rested, capable bullpens, and the under becomes attractive as an extra pick with Arizona ML.

If positive regression comes for Nelson in this game, we should be in a good spot when all is said and done.

Pick: Diamondbacks ML -120 · Under 8.5
