Miguel Vargas is a guy that the Bat X was really high on coming into the year. In its projections, if you looked at FanGraphs, the Bat X liked him more than ZiPS, Steamer, ATC and all the other systems.
It has been right so far about the White Sox third baseman, and it's even undershot him because his bat speed has been up about 2.5 miles per hour this year.
Vargas is hitting the ball hard. He's hitting plenty of home runs so far. He already has six, and he's facing a pitcher that the Bat X does not like at all: Padres SP German Marquez.
He is one of the absolute worst pitchers in all of baseball. His stuff and overall projections are terrible.
Out of 319 pitchers to possibly make a start this year, Marquez projects 299th. He is just not good.
