This matchup against the Wizards is exploitable for Mitchell with them having the second-worst Defense in the league and the fourth-fastest Pace. Further, they allow the fifth-most assists per game to their opponents. Mitchell has been great with extended run. He’s been given the opportunity to show an expanded game after primarily being considered a defense first player. His last 3 games have all been at 37 minutes played with 26, 18, and 16 PA. He’s been able to score and dish to his teammates. Even if this game ends up being a blowout, I’d imagine that Mitchell would continue to play as they prioritize his development.

Through 4 games with Washington, Smart is averaging 1.8 assists on 4.5 assist chances, and 1.5 rebounds over 3.5 rebound chances. This means he’s averaging 3.3 R+A over 8 combined chances. Assuming he sees a similar amount of chances tonight (8), he’d need to convert on 75% of them to clear 5.5. Jordan Poole is out but last game, they kept Smart off the bench in his normal 20 minute role. With Washington, he’s averaging 19.8 minutes per game, down from the 21.1 he was averaging with Memphis. Seems like Washington doesn’t plan to expand Smart’s role too much even with Poole sidelined. Banking on Smart playing a similar role tonight with Miami limiting his rebound and assist chances.
