Bethune-Cookman vs Stony Brook College Basketball Betting Preview

Stony Brook profiles similarly to Bethune-Cookman's most recent opponent, Jacksonville, which just defeated the Wildcats 69-64 in a game that we saw play to 65 possessions.

I don't think Geno Ford wants to go up and down with Bethune-Cookman, and we've seen the Wildcats slow down the tempo significantly the last three weeks after running in their first three games of the season.

Stony Brook is more athletic and its length could create some issues for Bethune-Cookman offensively.

Stony Brook's defense will turn you over if you're sloppy with the basketball, and it's an excellent rebounding team. We should see very little at the rim for Bethune-Cookman and minimal second-chance opportunities.

The Seawolves won't push in transition frequently and will set up in the half-court. The offense will run through Erik Pratt, who averages 18 points per game on the season, and Rob Brown III, who chips in 12 points per game.

These two are solid scorers for the Seawolves, but they take a lot of shots, and frankly, a lot of bad shots.

Stony Brook is also a bad offensive rebounding team, ranking just 328th in collecting rebounds off of misses. With nearly half of its shots coming from deep, I would expect Stony Brook to get back on defense rather than crash the offensive glass.

This is a quick turnaround with both teams having played a day prior, and I could see the jumpers falling short early on in this one.

Both offenses are in the bottom 100 nationally in offensive free throw rate. While Bethune-Cookman sends its opponents to the line frequently, we shouldn't see that in this one, as most of the shots taken from the Seawolves will be 3s or mid-range jumpers.

I like the early start in the neutral setting, and with two bad shooting offenses, I would expect a slower start.

Pace won't allow a barrage of scoring to get this one over, so if we can avoid late-game fouling, this under should clear for us.

That being said, FanDuel is the only number open at the time of writing (145.5). That is a bit too low, but if other books open closer to 148.5, I'll be much more comfortable with that number.

My Pick: Under (Play to 148.5)
