Furman vs Chattanooga NCAAB Betting Preview
Furman Basketball
Furman is 10-5 and coming off a tough overtime loss to Western Carolina that snapped a six-game winning streak.
The Paladins are led by talented freshman Alex Wilkins. Wilkins leads the team with 17.5 points and 5.0 assists per game. His bread and butter as a scorer is getting in the paint and either settling for a floater or throwing a defender's timing off by going up awkwardly around the rim.
Clemson transfer Asa Thomas is a name to watch. He had only eight points on 2-of-14 shooting against Western Carolina, but before that game, he scored in double figures in six straight. Thomas is a 6-foot-7 shooter who's 39% from 3 on 8.2 3-point attempts per game.
Chattanooga Basketball
The Mocs are a long way away from their 29-9 record a year ago. They're 6-9 overall and 0-2 in the SoCon after a bad loss to VMI, which was ranked 341st in KenPom.
Offensively, they shoot a 3 on 51.1% of their possessions, which is ranked 11th nationally. The problem is they shoot 32% from 3 (242nd in the country) as a unit.
Chattanooga is led by Jordan Frison, who averages 14 points per game on 52/38/81 shooting splits. Over a six-game stretch going into the VMI game, Frison was averaging 19.3 points per game. In the VMI loss, he scored five points on 2-of-8 shooting.
The good news for Chattanooga fans is that Frison has only scored in single digits twice this season, and in both of the following games, Frison scored in double figures.
Furman vs. Chattanooga Betting Analysis
My logic for this game is simple: I don't trust Chattanooga at all. The Mocs lost to a VMI team that has six wins, one against Chattanooga, three against non-Division I teams and the other two against Southern Indiana and Loyola MD (331st and 345th in KenPom, respectively).
Furman is a solid SoCon team with respectable wins and, most importantly, players I can trust to make a play with the ball in their hands.
My Pick: Furman -1.5
