Louisiana vs Old Dominion College Basketball Betting Preview

Louisiana Basketball

Louisiana enters this game with a 9-17 overall record. The Ragin’ Cajuns began their campaign in atrocious form, dropping 10 of their first 11 matchups.

Despite its slow start, Louisiana travels to Norfolk after winning four of its last five games and looks to build on that momentum with a road victory.

Head coach Quannas White was brought to Lafayette after a 15-year tenure by former head coach Bob Marlin, who was let go this past offseason after making the NCAA Tournament just twice in his 15 seasons.

Leading the charge for the Ragin’ Cajuns' offense is 6-foot-5 junior guard Dorian Finister, who's in his first season at Louisiana after previous stints at Sam Houston and Kansas State. Finister is posting over 14 points per game this season, along with five rebounds and two assists.

Alongside Finister in White’s backcourt is former Pepperdine guard Jaxon Olvera, who's also posting double-figure scoring efforts. The sophomore averages over 11 points per game this season, but he's been rather inefficient, converting just 36% of his field goal attempts.

The two Louisiana guards lead an abysmal offense that averages under 63 points. The Ragin’ Cajuns rank outside the top 330 in the country in offensive efficiency, according to KenPom.

White’s offense operates at one of the slowest paces in college basketball, largely generating its scoring in the half-court.

Fortunately, Louisiana is slightly better on the other end of the floor, allowing only 69 points per game. The Ragin’ Cajuns rank 230th in defensive efficiency, according to KenPom, having played a very weak strength of schedule.

Old Dominion Basketball

Old Dominion has had a very up-and-down last few weeks, posting an 8-18 overall record this season. The Monarchs have a 4-9 record in Sun Belt play thus far, ranking 13th out of 14 teams.

The Monarchs play at a far quicker pace than their Monday opponent, with the offense scoring over 74 points per game.

KC Shaw is having a spectacular senior year for the Monarchs, averaging nearly 17 points and four rebounds.

Alongside Shaw in the backcourt is 6-foot-2 senior guard LJ Thomas, who's also having a great season of his own. He's scoring over 11 points per game this season, along with four rebounds and three assists.

The stellar guard play is the only thing standing in the way of Old Dominion becoming the worst team in the Sun Belt.

While Mike Jones' bunch is generating some solid offense this season, it ranks 259th in the country in offensive efficiency, according to Haslametrics. Old Dominion really struggles to protect the ball and turns it over at a very high clip.

On the other end of the floor, Old Dominion is allowing just shy of 79 points per game this season, creating a scoring margin of -3.5. According to KenPom, the Monarchs are equally inefficient defensively and rank outside the top 250 nationally.

Louisiana vs. Old Dominion Betting Analysis

I expect a very sloppy, back-and-forth game on Monday, with both teams very desperate to gain some confidence as we near the Sun Belt Tournament.

Old Dominion will look to dictate the pace of the game on its home floor, while Louisiana will undoubtedly rely on its slow-tempo, half-court offense, which has been fairly effective over its last few games.

It's tough to ignore that the Ragin’ Cajuns are in far better form right now.

That being said, I think Louisiana is inevitably due for a regression, with three of its last four victories coming on its home floor.

This line is much higher than expected, though, so instead, I'll target Old Dominion moneyline in parlays.

My Pick: Old Dominion ML -260 (Target in ML Parlay)
