Marquette vs St. John's College Basketball Betting Preview
I project the Red Storm as 17.4-point favorites, so I'm happy to hop on them at this number.
Marquette is a mess, for a multitude of reasons, not the least of which is rebounding. Through six conference games, the Eagles rank 10th in the Big East in defensive rebounding rate and rebounding differential. You can't be weak on the glass against St. John's, or Zuby Ejiofor will make you pay with endless second-chance opportunities.
Ejiofor should have a huge game, given he's a monster post presence, and Marquette doesn't have any decent post defenders (1.1 PPP allowed, fourth percentile). The Johnnies don't have a super dynamic offense, but they'll grind out points against Marquette.
On the other end of the court, Marquette is still running Shaka Smart's ball-screen-centric attack, but the Eagles haven't been nearly as effective as in years past (.83 PPP, 20th percentile). I've had some issues with the Johnnies' dribble defense, but they're still a rock-solid ball-screen coverage unit (allowing .82 PPP, 80th percentile).
My Pick: St. John's -14 or Better
