Mississippi State Basketball

In what's been a very up-and-down season for Mississippi State, the Bulldogs enter Tuesday night’s contest with a 13-16 overall record.

In head coach Chris Jans’ fourth season in Starkville, the Bulldogs are well off the NCAA Tournament bubble, with their only path to the Big Dance being to run the table in the SEC Tournament.

While Jans was brought into Starkville for his effectiveness as a defensive-minded coach in his previous tenure at New Mexico State, Mississippi State has been dreadful on that end of the floor in 2025-26.

Jans’ Bulldogs are allowing 80 points per game to their opponents, with their defense ranking outside the top 340 in the country. Mississippi State also ranks outside the top 90 in defensive efficiency rating, per KenPom.

The Bulldogs have been slightly better offensively thanks to the excellent play from their junior guard Josh Hubbard, who's been a savior for a largely mediocre offense.

In Hubbard’s third season in Starkville, the six-foot guard has proven to be one of the best scorers in the sport, posting 21 points per game. Alongside Hubbard, senior guard Jayden Epps has also been very effective on the offensive end of the floor, posting over 15 points per game.

The Bulldogs' frontcourt has been a non-factor offensively, without a single forward on the roster posting double-figure scoring efforts this season. Both Achor Achor and Quincy Ballard are great defensively, but they struggle to capitalize inside the paint, scoring less than six points per game.

Florida Basketball

The Gators enter this game as one of the hottest teams in the country, having won 14 of their 16 conference matchups.

It was a fantastic offseason for Todd Golden in the transfer portal, as he secured Xaivian Lee and Boogie Fland to replace Walter Clayton Jr. in Florida’s backcourt.

After starting in the Ivy League for three seasons, Lee got off to a very disappointing start to his first season playing power-conference hoops. He's since rebounded in impressive fashion and is scoring over 11 points per game.

Like Lee, Boogie Fland got off to a rather slow start, but he's improved substantially over the last few weeks, having just scored 22 points in a huge road victory over Texas.

Fortunately for Golden, the frontcourt featured several underclassmen, all of whom returned to Gainesville this season.

After being a part of the core of last season’s championship roster, forwards Alex Condon and Thomas Haugh have picked up right where they left off, thriving on both ends of the floor.

Haugh is the leading scorer for a Gators offense that's scoring over 86 points per game this season. The 6-foot-9 junior is posting an impressive 17 points per game, along with six rebounds.

Condon is having a stellar year of his own, with the 6-foot-11 Australian recording 14-point, seven-rebound figures.

Florida’s offense has remained elite this season, as Golden’s bunch ranks 14th in the country in offensive efficiency, per KenPom.

The Gators' frontcourt has actually made even more of an impact on the defensive end of the floor, leading to an elite Florida interior defense that boasts a ton of size and athleticism.

Alongside Haugh and Condon, Rueben Chinyelu returned from Golden’s 2025 championship roster, as well. He's seen increased minutes this season and has been an unbelievable presence in the Gators’ defensive frontcourt as an elite rim protector. He's averaging a double-double in just 24 minutes per contest.

The Gators' defense is once again amongst the best in college basketball, as Florida currently ranks fourth in the country in defensive efficiency rating, per KenPom.

Mississippi State vs. Florida Betting Analysis

Tuesday’s SEC showdown features two teams headed in completely opposite directions, which is pretty evident as Florida sits as a massive favorite to prevail on its home floor.

The Gators enter this contest as one of the hottest teams in the entire country, and they currently sit atop the SEC standings.

The Gators are clearly the favored side in this matchup, but I prefer backing Golden’s bunch to come out hot in the first 20 minutes of the game, while taking the foot off the gas in the second half.

My Pick: Florida 1H ATS
