Northeastern vs Holy Cross College Basketball Betting Preview

Northeastern Basketball

Northeastern entered the season with a familiar face on the sidelines, Bill Coen. This is his 20th season at the helm for Northeastern, and he's looking for a third trip to the NCAA Tournament.

The Huskies will find themselves in the middle of the pack in their conference, as Towson heads most of the preseason polls to win the CAA. The Huskies do have a stable program that's brought in some transfer help, and their best player so far has been a freshman in Xavier Abreu.

The 6-foot-3 guard has averaged 30.2 minutes per game and has shot 60% from the field.

Northeastern also plays at a much higher tempo than Holy Cross, and that often means it loves to attack the basket (just 26.7% of its points come beyond the arc).

That style of play has also gotten the Huskies to the charity stripe at a high clip. Holy Cross rarely gets to the line, so there will be a big discrepancy there.

Holy Cross Basketball

Holy Cross heads into this matchup in bad form. But to its credit, it comes in with an strength of schedule ranked in the top third of college basketball.

To the surprise to few, the Crusaders have lost by double digits in all but one of their games.

They’ve won just one game against a Division I opponent this season and rank outside the top 300 in both adjusted offensive and defensive efficiencies.

Not just that, but they're in the bottom five in defensive field goal percentage allowed and also play slow enough that it's difficult to climb back into games once they fall behind.

They don’t have the depth to compete against the bigger programs, and while Northeastern isn’t exactly a big program, its roster resources far outweigh those of Holy Cross.

Northeastern vs. Holy Cross Betting Analysis

I think this line should be closer to double digits.

Northeastern leads in most metrics and as surprisingly strong as Holy Cross's strength of schedule has been, Northeastern's has been better.

I’ll lay this number in the mid-week matinee, as I simply don’t think that Holy Cross will get up the shot volume equal to Northeastern's.

My Pick: Northeastern -5.5 (Play to -7.5)
