Texas vs Duke College Basketball Betting Preview
Texas Basketball
The Texas Longhorns have really fallen into hard times ever since they were forced to fire Chris Beard in the middle of the season just two years ago.
And ultimately, the keys to the castle were given to Rodney Terry, but that was a short-lived moment in time. He was fired at the end of the season, even though they made the NCAA Tournament as a First Four team.
So, in comes Sean Miller following a successful stint at Xavier; he was brought in to replicate that success (and the success with Arizona) in Austin. He's made four Elite Eight appearances and a Final Four run in his career.
He'll have plenty to work with on this roster. Jordan Pope decided to stay, and that will be really helpful as the rest of the roster is littered with raw talent and transfer additions, including Dailyn Swain, who followed Miller from Xavier.
Miller's teams are typically built around strong guard play, and this Texas team won't be any different. But the Longhorns did add some bigs to aid its defense and rebounding, major weaknesses from last season.
Texas will be a ranked team by the end of the season and will be in the field in March.
Duke Basketball
Duke falling in the Final Four was straight cinema.
It had a roster that saw three players go to the NBA draft. But just like all programs, the Blue Devils reloaded.
They're also a team that lost no one in the transfer portal, and they bring in the nation’s top recruiting class. Cameron (ESPN No. 1 recruit) and Cayden (ESPN No. 10 recruit) Boozer come into a great situation and they’ll have the ability to make an instant impact.
They also added depth via the transfer portal. This team won’t miss a beat in terms of expected production, as it'll be able to coast through a relatively easy non-conference outside of Kansas and Florida.
Expect a high octane offense with interior presence that will rival last year's dominance. This team, by talent, is better than it was last season.
Texas vs. Duke Betting Analysis
While the Longhorns are unranked for the first time in a while, they're grossly undervalued. Competing on night one will go a long way toward silencing some doubters.
Winning this game won’t be in the cards for them on Tuesday, but they have a deep roster with plenty of potential.
A coaching change was the best thing for this program, and while Miller's success hasn’t necessarily translated into a championship, his teams have definitely surpassed expectations during his tenure at Xavier.
But this isn’t Xavier. Texas will ensure that he has everything to contend with in this conference, and a game against Duke is exactly what the doctor ordered.
Take Texas with the points. This is playable all the way down to 7.
My Pick: Texas +8.5 (Play to +7)
