Purdue Boilermakers Betting Preview: Boilers Losing Their Edge
Purdue has to be drained.
The first year of the Barry Odom era showed plenty of promise early — not just a 2-0 start, but a more significant competitive spirit in early-season losses to USC, Notre Dame and Illinois.
Fresh off the disastrous Ryan Walters tenure, the competitive juice and fun offense were a breath of fresh air.
Unfortunately for the Boilermakers, both of those traits are waning as the season heats up. They've lost six straight contests and are staring down the barrel of Michigan, Ohio State, Washington and Indiana to finish the season.
There's a distinct possibility that Odom's first season ends with a 2-10 record, and everyone knows it. How his team responds emotionally will be the big question to answer.
In recent weeks, faith in starting quarterback Ryan Browne has dissipated. His accuracy has slipped, while his turnover problem hasn't, opening the door for sophomore quarterback Malachi Singleton to earn more snaps.
Singleton was definitely the better quarterback against Northwestern, but Purdue failed to score in that game.
Singleton had only three attempts last week against Rutgers, but he made the most of them, throwing for two touchdowns in two completions.
Regardless of how the quarterbacks split snaps, Purdue's dreadful defense is unlikely to find any answers at night in the Big House.
The Boilermakers rank 17th in the Big Ten in both total defense and pass defense, most recently giving up 359 yards through the air to Rutgers last week.
Even mediocre opponents outmatch the Purdue secondary, and teams with more talent have had their way through the air.
Michigan Wolverines Betting Preview: Marsh Leading the Charge
This is an interesting spot for the Wolverines. Fresh off a win (and blown cover late) against Michigan State in an in-state rivalry game last week, it wouldn't be a surprise to see Michigan have a slight emotional hangover.
This is their last game before the bye week, and they'll regroup from there before the stretch run.
Michigan prefers to move the ball on the ground, and it has another duo at running back in Justice Haynes and Jordan Marshall that has combined for more than 1,400 yards and 15 touchdowns through the first eight games.
When Michigan feels it needs to manage a game, it leans heavily on its veteran backs and keeps things simple for freshman quarterback Bryce Underwood.
In his four "big" games this season against Oklahoma, Nebraska, USC and Michigan State, Underwood is averaging just 133.5 yards passing, compared to 246.5 yards passing against cupcake opponents.
A top target has finally emerged through the air in freshman wideout Andrew Marsh.
After recording just one catch for 30 yards in the nonconference, Marsh is averaging five catches for 80.3 yards per game in four conference games, with two touchdowns in the last three weeks.
Marsh is a big-play threat and looks like a true stud for years to come.

Purdue vs Michigan Pick, Betting Analysis
With big games coming after the bye week, Michigan head coach Sherrone Moore would be wise to experiment through the air in this game.
The Wolverines will need Underwood to perform better in big games than he has thus far, and building confidence with his an emerging superstar in Marsh should be the top priority.
Against a Purdue secondary that has been torn apart by some of the worst offenses in the Big Ten, this is an opportunity for Underwood and Marsh's big-play connection to shine.
At better than 2-1 odds, Marsh to find the end zone is the best way to approach this game.
Pick: Andrew Marsh Anytime TD (+220)
