Let's leave the horror stories for Halloween, not Thanksgiving.
That was the fate for the few and the brave who bet the Toledo-Central Michigan under 58, which went over in the final minutes despite being an absolute blowout and 14 points away from the closing total.
Here's what went down:
Toledo was up 44-0 with less than four minutes left and were running out the clock. On third down, Ronnie Jones fumbled, and Central Michigan returned it 53 yards for a touchdown.
44-6 thanks to a missed extra point.
Central Michigan, despite trailing by 38 points, decided to try an onside kick. Toledo recovered, then ran it 45 yards for a touchdown on the very first play.
51-6. Still under, thanks to the missed extra point.
Central Michigan then drove down the field and scored a touchdown on third down with 40 seconds left to push the game over. That drive featured a horrific pass interference call when the wide receiver tackle the corner to prevent an interception, but the defense got flagged. The announcers even said "they got that wrong but it won’t affect this game." If only they knew.
51-13 final.
If you told me one team had the following drive chart in a game that had a total of 58, I'd be pretty upset if I bet the under.
