Georgia Tech vs Stanford College Football Preview
Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets Betting Preview
Having the trio of QB Haynes King, RB Jamal Haynes and OC Buster Faulkner covered up quite a bit of bad at Georgia Tech.
All three departed and now Tech is a mess, both offensively and defensively.
The Jackets opened up flat in an ugly 14-13 loss to Colorado (which may not be any good itself) and looked helpless in a 45-24 blowout to Tennessee (the Vols ran for 300 yards).
Defensive growing pains are expected with the change in coordinator, but the drop-off from 2025 to 2026 in an offensive capability is alarming.
Coming into Week 4 at 1-2 — Tech thankfully handled business against Mercer — the roster is beat up. Starting left tackle Ethan Mackenny left Week 2 in a walking boot, center Jameson Riggs is questionable after sitting last week, and last year's lead running back Malachi Hosley is questionable.
On defense, DE Jordan Walker is out, and two other starters (including green dot captain Kyle Efford) are questionable.
There's a bye week on the horizon to get some of these guys back, but Brent Key absolutely can't afford to start the year 1-3 with a loss to Stanford.
Even at full strength, there's not a lot to love here. Despite adding an exciting back in Haynes, the run game has gotten nothing going due to a lethal combination of offensive line injuries and a lack of high-end talent or depth.
Alberto Mendoza showed some gunslinger attitude against Colorado, but he's nowhere near good enough to offset deficiencies in the receiving corps.
The issues are reversed on defense — Tech can't stop giving up explosive runs while the secondary is a strength. But those injuries, especially to Efford, are killer.
The reality that Tech is a struggling football team is evident and likely to play out.
Stanford Cardinal Betting Preview
Against Hawaii, Stanford looked pretty good. Against two good teams (Miami, Duke), Stanford looked horrendous.
That's probably the reality of this team in another year of post-David Shaw purgatory — beat up on the lesser teams and get blown out by the big boys.
It's those marginal games (including this week against Georgia Tech) that will really matter. The issue in 2026 is, all of those marginal games are on the road, mostly 2,000 miles away. Welcome to ACC life.
Tavita Pritchard spent the entire offseason vowing to return Stanford to its power run days. So, Pritchard (who calls his own plays) has dialed up a run on … checks notes… 41.3% of plays, good for 126th nationally.
We can chalk that up to two factors: (1) Four of the five offensive line starters have spent some time injured and three spent time injured at the same time, and (2) Stanford has spent the last two games playing exclusively from behind.
We'll see as Stanford gets into more neutral game scripts — and with all linemen, except Nick Prongos, back — if Pritchard continues to skew pass-heavy.
Just like the offense, the defense is strongest up front and seriously depends on the offense lining up across from it. Dangerous passing attacks like Miami's will continue to dice this team up. But lesser passing attacks may struggle.
Believe it or not, Stanford rosters an NFL-caliber corner in Brandon Nicholson, who's just a sophomore.

Georgia Tech vs Stanford Pick, Betting Analysis
Opportunities for wins this year are scant for Stanford. One of those opportunities comes Saturday night. Stanford opened +5.5 and was bet down to +3.5, but hasn't moved further than that. The total also bounces around 48 points, with that being the clear buy point.
Stanford Stadium fails to pack the stands or really present any kind of home field advantage, as the Cardinal are a paltry 27-31 at home since 2016. However, all four wins last year came at home, including outright upsets of Boston College (+14), Florida State (+17.5) and Cal (+3.5).
Currently, a bad Georgia Tech team with multiple injuries to key starters travels across the country and lays points on the road. The offense is still in disarray, and I'm very concerned about the impact of not having your green dot player on defense.
Until proven to be semi-capable this season, Georgia Tech shouldn't lay points on the road.
Stanford is worth adding to an Underdog Round Robin moneyline parlay and, perhaps, considering outright.
Pick: Stanford +3.5 (Play to +3)
