The Oregon State Beavers take on the UTEP Miners in El Paso, Texas, on Saturday, Sept. 26. Kickoff is set for 9 p.m. ET on Mountain West+.

Oregon State vs UTEP College Football Preview
Oregon State’s offense is way ahead of where it was a year ago. Head coach JaMarcus Shephard has that unit humming, and quarterback Braden Atkinson appears comfortable enough to take shots downfield.
That’s a problem for UTEP, which grades out 104th nationally in pass coverage, per PFF, and 90th in passingexplosiveness allowed. Those are numbers that scream big-play vulnerability.
Oregon State wide receiver Jesse Legree is the perfect matchup problem here. He has put up 476 receiving yards on 28 yards per catch, and three other receivers have at least 10 grabs.
When you can’t slow the deep ball and you’re facing that kind of explosiveness, everything becomes short fields and quick swings in momentum.
UTEP’s offense hasn’t helped either. It has been situationally sloppy all year. The Miners showed flashes against Michigan early but got steamrolled in the second half.
The Wolverines threw all over them despite the issues they've had through the air.
UTEP also struggles on third down and has leaned into a run-heavy game plan after facing Oklahoma and Michigan, but it still needs to throw to stay in games. When the passing game stalls, possessions end quickly.
Special teams won’t help the Miners much, either. Their net punting is about 28 yards, which will set Oregon State up with short fields repeatedly.
Expect OSU to take some deep shots off sudden change; Atkinson has the arm and receivers to exploit that.
Oregon State vs UTEP Pick, Betting Analysis
There’s a small risk UTEP moves the ball enough to put a few points on the board, and Oregon State’s secondary has shown some susceptibility, giving up chunks to Houston and Montana.
Still, the gap between the offenses is pretty clear.
This Oregon State attack is farther along than last year when Maalik Murphy was under center, and the Beavers were struggling to sustain drives.
I think the Beavers hit around 40 points. OSU should do most of the heavy lifting and can win in El Paso by a couple of touchdowns.
