  • Miami is about a two-touchdown favorite over UAB on Thursday night.
  • Danny Donahue takes a look at our new PRO Report tool, which highlights sharp action, power ratings discrepancies, PRO System matches and more.
  • Most signs point to value on the Blazers at +14.5 or better on Thursday against the Hurricanes.

The ACC makes its return to college football Thursday, sending the Miami Hurricanes out as its first representative to host UAB tonight in south Florida.

Miami is, as expected, a considerable favorite tonight — with the spread hovering around two touchdowns — over a UAB team that will be playing for the second time already this year. The Blazers beat Central Arkansas, 45-35, last week in a game that was a bit tighter than the 20.5-point closing spread would've suggested.

But in addition to being the debut of a Power 5 team, this game has also been littered with betting value signals as displayed by our brand new PRO Report.

Let's take a look.

UAB vs. Miami Odds, PRO Report

The earliest opener had Miami as a 16-point favorite in this matchup, but most books opened the number at -14.5. Still, the spread has come down a tick, as most shops are now posting -14, even with 61% of bets landing on Miami.

Sharp Action

As you may have been able to guess by the line's move toward an unpopular side, sharps have been among the minority taking UAB. Sports Insights Bet Signals — which track and record instances of market movement caused by sharp action — have been triggered four times on the Blazers, serving as confirmation that the slight reverse line movement has been a result of pro action.

PRO Systems

While sharps are hitting the Blazers, one of our PRO betting systems, Opening Game Matchup, is suggesting that Miami is in a spot that's been profitable over the years.

The system focuses on teams coming off a bowl season in their first game, and has won at a 57% rate for a 10% return on investment since 2005.

Model Projections

The market may see this as a two-touchdown game, but according to our power ratings — compiled by Collin Wilson — Miami should really be only an 11-point favorite in this matchup. As a result, you're getting an extra field goal's worth of value by taking UAB at +14.

And since 14 is a key number in football betting, you can make your bet all the more valuable if you can find a +14.5, ensuring yourself a win should Miami win by exactly two touchdowns.
