Wake Forest Demon Deacons Betting Preview: High Powered Offense

Credit where credit is due — Jake Dickert has the goods right now.

His Demon Deacons played Miami closer than any other opponent so far, but beyond moral victories, Wake Forest has looked like an offensive juggernaut in four outright wins, three against power-conference opponents.

The Wake offense is averaging 42 points per game in those three wins over Purdue, Louisville and Stanford. And coming off last week’s 57-3 rout of the Cardinal, the Deacs may not be slowing down anytime soon.

Dual-threat Gio Lopez looks healthy again and is having a monstrous breakout season. Lopez has accounted for 15 total touchdowns, five with his legs, while throwing just one interception on 151 attempts.

The Demon Deacons’ running back duo of Ty Clark III and Deuce Lawrence each average over five yards per carry, and they complete a well-balanced attack that grades out extremely well at a national level in all facets offensively.

Wake Forest cracks the top 50 in success rate on rushing plays, passing plays and overall.

Even better in this matchup, NC State has been prone to explosives. The Wolfpack defense ranks 101st nationally in explosiveness against.

The door is wide open for Dickert and company to build on the successful foundation they've established in the first month of the season.

NC State Wolfpack Betting Preview: Recovering Nicely

Copy and paste everything above, but this time in NC State colors.

Outside of the most embarrassing last-second loss in college football in the last decade, the Wolfpack offense has been a whopping success story. Since its season-opening loss to Virginia, NC State is averaging 44 points per game and owns a 3-1 record; truthfully, it should be 4-0.

Last week, its three-point win over Louisville was well-earned, and will age well.

Like Wake Forest, NC State is led by a dynamic quarterback in CJ Bailey, who's accounted for 10 total touchdowns this year. NC State has been at its best when it airs it out, and there’s no reason to expect anything else against Wake Forest.

It’s a matchup of strength vs. weakness when NC State throws the ball in this one. NC State ranks 30th in the country in offensive success rate on passing plays, and it faces a horrid Wake Forest pass defense that ranks 121st in success rate allowed in the same category.

Wake Forest vs NC State Pick, Betting Analysis

Bailey will need to limit mistakes for NC State to win this one outright, as he's thrown four interceptions this year. He's mistake-prone at the worst times, which is enough concern to avoid playing the spread.

However, it's worth noting that Action Analytics projects the spread at NC State -7.3 in this one.

Rather than play a side, I have my eyes on the total.

With two offenses that are perfectly designed to exploit their opponents’ weaknesses, the total looks appetizing.

It’s high on paper, but for good reason.

Four consecutive NC State games have totaled 59 points or more, and all five Wake Forest contests have been played in the 50s or above.

Pick: Over 59.5
