South Carolina Gamecocks Betting Preview: One Dimensional
Not exactly the greatest start to a season if you're a Gamecocks fan.
After throttling two G6 teams in the first two weeks, South Carolina seemingly got exposed once conference play ramped up. First, it got into a heated battle with Mississippi State, and then the following week, got torched by Alabama.
That game in Tuscaloosa began the chatter surrounding head coach Shane Beamer. Initially, it was the Dylan Stewart debacle, where he totally disobeyed Beamer, and secondly, it completely wiped away the confidence of quarterback LaNorris Sellers.
You know what you're going to get out of Sellers. He's not the most efficient passer, but his wheels have more than made up for it. Granted, he does have a trio of quality receivers in Nyck Harbor, Donovan Murph and Mazeo Bennett Jr.
But for the most part, this is a run-first team. Sellers ran for 147 yards in the nail-biter against Kentucky, while Matt Fuller took off for 112 against Bama.
To round out the season, the Gamecocks are the 11th-most efficient rushing team in the FBS — with Fuller and Sellers carrying the load, but Jabree Coleman and Isaiah Augustave each average over eight yards per carry.
Just like its offense, South Carolina's defense can only thrive on the ground. And even better (maybe?), it looks like Dylan Stewart is coming back after being suspended.
It's ranked 89th in Passing Success Rate allowed while ranking 123rd in explosiveness allowed. Not only that, the Gamecocks cause Havoc on only 13.7% of snaps, which is lower tier.
Justin Okoronkwo is the star of this defense thus far, leading the team with 24 solo tackles and a tackle for loss, while defensive lineman Anthony Addison has already piled up three sacks.
Florida Gators Betting Preview: Looking to Bounce Back
Boy, head coach Jon Sumrall was not happy with his Gators after that brutal 45-17 loss to Missouri.
"I'm sick to my stomach," he told reporters after the Week 5 defeat in Columbia.
And let me just say, this Gators team is definitely a lot better than what we saw last week. But I think we all knew there was going to be some growing pains.
Primarily, the secondary is where Florida really struggles, and that was a pain point coming in.
Florida has a solid safety group led by DJ Coleman and Lagonza Hayward, but cornerbacks Kanye Clark, Ben Hanks III and Cormani McClain haven't been enough.
Florida is getting beat on passing plays close to 46% of the time, which ranks 113th in the FBS, and on 31% of pass-down plays, which puts it at 94th in Success Rate allowed.
But I would like to highlight the positives on this team because, as I said, this is a quality team.
Quarterback Aaron Philo has proven that his chemistry with offensive coordinator Buster Faulkner is unmatched, completing passes at a 69% clip and with only two picks.
With that, he's built a great connection with former five-star wide receiver Dallas Wilson, Vernell Brown III and TJ Abrams.
But the star of the show is running back Jadan Baugh, and he needs no introduction.
Baugh leads the nation with 11 rushing touchdowns and leads the SEC with 613 rushing yards. He was held to just 13 yards on 12 carries against Missouri, though, so the matchup with South Carolina could be an intriguing one.

South Carolina vs Florida Pick, Betting Analysis
This is a game that I'm extremely curious to see if the Gamecocks slow down Baugh as Mizzou did.
South Carolina isn't anywhere near the defensive team that Missouri is, but it does have the framework to make it work. It currently ranks 37th in the FBS in rushing yards allowed per game.
Meanwhile, the four teams that Baugh carved up were Ole Miss, Auburn, FCS Campbell and Florida Atlantic. The best out of that bunch against the run is Auburn, which ranks 65th in rushing yards per game allowed.
I believe in the Gators, but I don't think this matchup lines up well with them. I'm taking South Carolina to cover.
Pick: South Carolina +11.5 (+110, FanDuel)
