Gerrit Cole won't be making his first start for the Yankees on opening day this season and it will likely be a while before we see him on the mound at all. New York's ace will be sidelined with for at least a month according to Jon Heyman of the New York Post. Cole will visit Dr. Neal ElAttrache to have his right elbow examined in person, Heyman reported.

The news comes on the heels of a highly-anticipated MRI that Cole underwent on Monday. The reigning American League Cy Young winner had complained of discomfort during Spring Training and Yankees manager Aaron Boone said Cole's recovery lately "has been more akin to what he feels during the season, when he's making 100 pitches."

Oddsmakers pulled AL Cy Young odds off the board when it was announced that Cole would be getting an MRI and he has dropped considerably since they reposted after Wednesday's news.

Cole was the favorite to win the 2024 AL Cy Young entering Spring Training, but his odds are off the board at FanDuel. At DraftKings, he fell from +500 to +2200. Corbin Burnes is now the favorite at FanDuel while Gausman is the favorite at DraftKings as of this writing despite dealing with shoulder fatigue himself.

The Yankees entered the spring with +850 odds to win the World Series, +400 odds to win the AL Pennant, -400 odds to make the MLB playoffs and an 93.5 win total. After the news, the Yankees have +1000 odds to win the World Series and +475 odds to win the AL Pennant — their win total and playoff odds are still off the board.
