Notre Dame's defense sets the tone. It allows 13.4 points per game and 2.79 yards per carry, and it has eight interceptions. Toney has more than 1,000 receiving yards and 13 touchdowns, so Miami loses its most dangerous weapon. CBs Jayden Sanders and Leonard Moore have combined for 11 forced incompletions, which leaves Miami's other receivers with tight windows.
Notre Dame's home-field advantage is also working in their favor. The Irish are 9-5 in AP top-five games at home, and they beat No. 1 Clemson 47-40 in double overtime in the last one on Nov. 7, 2020.
