Miami vs. North Carolina Preview
Miami earned this number. Darian Mensah leads the nation with an 81.4% completion rate and 22 touchdown passes, and Malachi Toney leads the FBS with 66 catches. The Hurricanes have won 14 of their last 15 games. Even so, Miami is only 5-2 against the spread as a favorite of 14.5 or more this season.
North Carolina has stayed close all year. All three of its losses came by 11 points or fewer, and Syracuse needed overtime to get the last one. Bill Belichick's team also beat TCU, Pitt, and Duke. The Tar Heels have won five straight in this series, and that history matters in a game this size.
The risks are real. Miami's defense ranks first in rushing yards allowed, and the Tar Heels rank 114th in total offense, so the ground game offers little help. Billy Edwards Jr. does cash in drives that reach scoring range, though, at 3.85 points per opportunity. Miami also has Notre Dame on deck, and I think the Hurricanes might ease off once the game is in hand. That setup favors the points.
