We're not even through the first full week of the 2025 World Series of Poker, and there are already plenty of things to discuss.
The World Series of Poker (WSOP) is heating up in Las Vegas, and George Tatalovich is leading the charge during Day 2 of Event #1, the $1,000 Mystery Millions No-Limit Hold'em. As we move into Day 3, poker enthusiasts are glued to the action at the Horseshoe and Paris Las Vegas.
Today's action at the 2025 WSOP kicks off at 11:00 a.m. local time, with players battling it out until a champion emerges. A new slate of events will also kick off.
First WSOP Event Down to 20 Players
Mystery Millions is the first event of the 2025 WSOP. Out of 1,045 players who reached Day 2, only 20 remain, with several big-money prizes still to be won. George Tatalovich leads with an impressive 77,625,000 chips.
Right behind Tatalovich are two strong competitors: Linda Ngo with 67,000,000 chips and Wesley Fei with 62,450,000.
Other key players moving to the final day are Daniel Strelitz with 52,200,000 chips, Michael Acevedo with 34,675,000, and Christopher Zollo with 16,000,000. As the tournament continues, everyone will be watching their strategies closely.
With the stakes high, the tension will rise too, making it exciting to see who will come out on top.
The Mystery Millions Surprise
The Mystery Millions tournament is popular at the WSOP due to its surprising twists and substantial rewards. An exciting moment occurred early in the tournament when Tyler Montoya selected a $1,000,000 prize envelope, despite being eliminated from the game within the first two hours.
Montoya, with $482,000 in live tournament cashes under his belt, celebrated despite his elimination. This was a mere seventh bounty claim out of 1,045 potential bounties.
Later, Thomas “PaigowKing” Zanot, remembered for his $6.4 million win in Pai Gow at The Flamingo, nabbed the second $1,000,000 envelope. The tournament features a mix of bounties ranging from $1,000 to $1 million, and there’s still another million-dollar bounty up for grabs. Along with that, a $500,000 envelope and several others worth $100,000 or more remain unclaimed.
A Record-Breaking Year at WSOP
This year marks a milestone for the WSOP, as it attracts the largest field yet, with 19,654 entries. The resulting prize pool stands at an impressive $17,295,520, with $5,896,500 allocated for the bounties. Every player who started Day 3 was assured a cash prize of $2,060, but the ultimate goal is either to hit a seven-figure bounty or to claim the $1 million first-place prize.
After Mystery Millions, a few more events are happening this month:
- Event #53: MILLIONAIRE MAKER No-Limit Hold’em starts on June 18 and lasts five days. With a $1,500 entry, it offers a chance to win life-changing money.
Event #59: Battle of the Ages No-Limit Hold’em has a fun twist. Players over 50 compete on Day 1A, while those under 50 compete on Day 1B. Everyone plays together for the final on June 23.
Event #66: Poker Players Championship begins on June 24 with a $50,000 entry fee, offering a high-stakes challenge for serious players.
