One of the biggest trades before the NFL Deadline involved Bradley Chubb, Chase Edmonds and a whole lot of draft compensation, and the impact for fantasy football players is a sizable one.

The Broncos sent Chubb — plus a 2025 fifth-round pick —  to the Dolphins, and in return received Chase Edmonds, a 2023 first-round pick and a 2024 fourth-round pick.

From a fantasy perspective a lone defensive player, no matter how good, is not going to determine the outcome of a unit’s success.

Edmonds is a notable fantasy piece, and moving him also has a tangible impact on some other players, including Raheem Mostert. That wasn’t it for the Dolphins, however, as they also went and acquired Jeff Wilson from the 49ers.

Here is how our fantasy experts are breaking down the impact of it all.

Sean Koerner: The biggest takeaway is that Mostert is a must-add if he’s still available in your league. Wilson, meanwhile, becomes his new handcuff and is already familiar with Miami’s run scheme.

In Denver, Melvin Gordon, Latavius Murray and Edmonds could form a murky three-way running back by committee. Edmonds’ value gets a slight boost, but I wouldn’t consider him a high-value add unless the Broncos drop Gordon or something of the sort.

Chris Raybon: Wilson could hurt Mostert’s stock. While Edmonds was also acquired by the current Miami regime, it’s obvious they didn’t feel like they were getting what they signed up for, prompting Mike McDaniel to give Mostert — a player he’d formerly coached in San Francisco — a heavy workload as the season has progressed.

Like Mostert, Wilson was coached by McDaniel in San Francisco. The Dolphins are going for a deep playoff run and Mostert is already 36 carries off his career high (137) through eight weeks, so I wouldn’t be surprised to see his usage throttled down a bit.

Mostert had been averaging 15.4 carries per game from Weeks 4-8 after averaging 8.0 from Weeks 1-3 — the presence of Wilson could cause him to fall somewhere in the middle going forward.
