Eagles vs Jaguars NFL London Preview
The Eagles are at the bottom of the market right now.
Lane Johnson retired this week and Cam Jurgens was sent out the door via trade, leaving the Eagles' offensive line woefully undermanned. The injuries are piling up everywhere, and the public sentiment on Philadelphia couldn't be any lower.
Neither offensive line is great in this one, though Philadelphia's defensive line may actually be able to create some havoc against Jacksonville.
From a pure situational and historical perspective, the value here is likely on Philadelphia, backed by a slew of 2-2 trends:
PHI Week 5, 2-2 record, Total 43 or less, Spread -4 or worse: 46-29-2 ATS (61%)
PHI Week 5, 2-2 record, off a failed cover vs. opponent that covered: 36-26-3 ATS (58%)
PHI Week 5, 2-2 record, Spread -2.5 to +7.5 vs. >.500 opponent: 47-26-3 ATS (64%) by 4.5 PPG
PHI Week 5, 2-2 record, with negative point differential: 51-30-1 ATS (63%)
But despite the trends, I want absolutely nothing to do with this Eagles team right now. I am passing on the side entirely because the bottom could truly be falling out.
However, we can still exploit some of Vic Fangio's defensive tendencies.
Fangio's defense is built to erase opposing tight ends — Tyler Higbee's 5/67 performance last week made him only the fourth opposing tight end to top 36 yards against Philly since the start of last season (a feat accomplished only nine times in their last 38 games). With Zack Baun back in practice, that tight end erasure remains a core strength.
On the flip side, Fangio's defenses allow a high number of quarterback rushing touchdowns. The Eagles allowed seven last season and have already surrendered three this year — the most QB rushing touchdowns allowed by any defense since the start of last season.
In total, Philly's defense has allowed a rushing score to a QB in eight of their last 21 games (38%), including two games with multi-rushing TD performances from opposing QBs.
This line move is one of the strangest of the season, shifting from Eagles -2.5 all the way to Jaguars -8.5 before settling back around -7.5.
Everyone loves the Jaguars entering Week 5, but this feels like the absolute apex of their market value.
Jacksonville's offensive line remains a beatable unit, but it is benefiting from an Eagles team that is bleeding value.
On offense, tight end Brenton Strange has seen his usage trend in the wrong direction. While he had a nice week last game against the Bengals, who are always terrible against TEs, his targets are down 20% this year (from 5.4 to 4.5 per game), and he has been held to 32 receiving yards or fewer in three of his four games.
Meanwhile, Trevor Lawrence's goal-line usage has quietly turned into a real weapon. Lawrence ran for nine touchdowns last season, posting six games with at least one rushing score (35%) and three multi-touchdown games on the ground.
With the Jaguars expected to score in England, Lawrence's rushing threat is a prime area to target.
Eagles vs Jaguars Prediction, Betting Analysis
I'm passing on the spread here because it feels like catching a falling thermonuclear weapon, but I love these two prop angles:
- Brenton Strange Under 35.5 Receiving Yards (-113 at BetRivers)
- Trevor Lawrence Anytime TD (+310 at FanDuel)
- Longshot Escalator: Trevor Lawrence 2+ Rushing TDs (+3000 at FanDuel)
