Jaguars vs Eagles Preview

We have the Jaguars as a 7.5-point favorite. Their offense has been solid, as expected, and their defense has done more than enough to get them to this 3-1 record.

The injury storyline is all on the Philly side. They are beaten down right now, while the Jags come into this game mostly healthy.

We're going to one of the best current buys in fantasy football and betting. It's Bhayshul Tuten, the most talented back on the roster in his all-important second year. Tuten's snap share is increasing:

  • Week 1: 48%
  • Week 2: 49%
  • Week 3: 53%
  • Week 4: 57%

Tuten had a career-high 17 carries last week and gained 73 yards, but Chris Rodriguez vultured a touchdown, leaving Tuten short of a smash day.

But the smash is coming.

Tuten's averaged a pristine 4.6 yards per carry, and he's converted all seven of his season targets into 54 yards for a really solid 1.35 yards per route run out of the backfield. The Jaguars are getting him going, and I suspect the workload goes more and more his way as the Jaguars set their sights on winning the AFC South.

The Eagles should boost the Jaguars' rushing attempts as a seven-point underdog.

Injuries to Dallas Goedert, DeVonta Smith, Saquon Barkley, and Tank Bigsby have left them depleted. They're getting very little production from the new wide receivers they brought in to replace AJ Brown. It's really ugly.

The Eagles averaged just 2.8 yards per play last week, and they roll into week five with one of the least-talented groups of offensive players in the league.

Jalen Hurts went 12-for-27 passing for 93 yards last week. This is an offense that is unlikely to hold the ball, opening up the Jaguars' backfield to handle 30+ touches as a unit, with the bulk going to our guy Tuten.

My first two legs are based on Tuten's abilities and volume. Over 65.5 rushing yards and 1+ touchdown.

That theoretical success on the ground, plus the fact that the Eagles don't have a confident base-down running back, should push Hurts into more pass attempts. They might have to be check-downs, and they might not work for gaining yards, but this setup leads right into a lot of attempts by Hurts as the Eagles try to figure out how to move the ball without Barkley or Bigsby in the backfield.

Will Shipley is the starter. He's been given just 15 carries this year and has averaged 3.4 yards per carry. He's best used in the passing game, where he's run a team-high 53 running-back routes.

I'm using the Hurts pass attempts market rather than yardage, because I just don't know this group can turn catches into yards. The target number there is 30, and that's our final leg in the parlay.

Let's start the Sunday of football with an early morning triple-up!
