After a tough Week 1 loss at home to the Giants, life doesn’t get much easier for the Titans in Week 2 with a Monday night game in Buffalo.
Coming into this game as double-digit underdogs, Tennessee will be hard-pressed to control the game script against the prohibitive Super Bowl favorites. That’s why I’m targeting Ryan Tannehill’s attempts prop tonight.
Make no mistake, the Titans offense will still rely heavily on Derrick Henry. However, the star running back should have his hands full against a Bills run defense that ranked 11th in Rush DVOA last season. Buffalo will look to force the Titans’ hand by putting them in passing situations.
Last season, Tannehill exceeded this line in four of the five Titans’ losses. The Titans prioritize the short-passing game, with Tannehill’s aDOT of 7.9 yards ranking 20th out of 30 qualifying quarterbacks. The Bills defensive front will bring the pressure (seven sacks in Week 1), which should translate to the signal caller getting the ball out of his hands quickly.
And with the Bills quick-strike offense capable of marching down the field in the blink of an eye (they ranked 13th in time of possession per drive last season, despite running the seventh most plays per drive), the Titans’ time of possession shouldn’t be an issue for this volume-based prop.
I have Tannehill projected closer to 35 attempts tonight.
