Devils vs. Lightning Preview

The Tampa Bay Lightning host the New Jersey Devils on Tuesday night as Tampa looks to build on its 9-7-2 start. John Cooper’s team has won eight of its past 11 games and has been led by veteran Jake Guentzel, who’s posted eight goals and nine assists while helping stabilize the Bolts after a slow opening stretch.

New Jersey, meanwhile, has opened the season on fire. The Devils are 13-4-1 and atop the Metro Division, powered by former first overall pick Jack Hughes, who leads the team with 10 goals and 10 assists. However, Hughes will be sidelined for the next eight weeks as he recovers from finger surgery.

Leg 1: Tampa Bay Lightning ML

I love the way Tampa has played over the past few weeks, and the Lightning match up exceptionally well against the Devils.

New Jersey is expected to take a step back over the next eight weeks without Hughes, and the home/road splits reinforce that concern as the Devils are a perfect 7-0 at home, but just 6-4 on the road.

With Tampa in form and catching New Jersey at the right time, the Lightning are the right side for the first leg.

Leg 2: Jake Guentzel 2+ SOG

We’ll team up with our Action PRO Report for this prop.

Guentzel is off to a red-hot start this season, and he should come out aggressive in this matchup. As a key piece of Tampa’s top power-play unit, he’ll have plenty of chances to generate attempts.

Our Action Pro Report projects 2.86 SOG.
