Election Day is underway, and as the hours tick by, the market’s predictions are finally colliding with real-time results.

In this breakdown, we examine the top prediction markets to trade as the curtain falls on this election cycle, focusing on balance-of-power contracts and the high-stakes Senate battlegrounds that have defined the political landscape over the past few months.

Polymarket Midterm Election Day Update

Prediction markets are heavily favoring the Democratic Party across nearly every board, most notably in markets tracking the balance of power and control of both the House and Senate.

These figures are hardly a novelty. These odds have held relatively steady over the past few days, peaking above a 90% implied probability for House control on more than $44 million in total trading volume.

The key tossups appear to tilt toward Democratic candidates, with notable exceptions such as the Texas gubernatorial race, where Republican Greg Abbott has carved out a substantial lead.

Swing States Won by Republicans

Perhaps the single most critical market for taking the pulse of these midterms is "Which Senate Swing States Will Republicans Win?", where the "None" option leads the board at a 34% implied probability. The silver lining for Republicans is that just yesterday, that same contract traded at 38%.

The second most favored outcome on the board is Iowa at a 10% implied odds. Right behind it appears an Iowa-Kansas combination bracket, a pairing in which Kansas looms especially large given the razor-thin margin in its Senate race and the absolute necessity for Republicans to defend that turf.

Polymarket Senate Control, House Control, and Balance of Power

Senate Control Odds

The fight for the Senate is the most complex and fiercely contested storyline of these midterm elections. Democrats are fighting to reclaim the majority, and Republicans know that if they succeed, Donald Trump faces an agonizing final two years of his presidency.

Right now, Democrats lead the board with a 77% implied probability. The party experienced a massive surge over the past week, jumping from a 65% chances to its current mark. The reason is simple: traders reacted aggressively to fresh polling showing Democratic nominees ahead in critical battlegrounds like Kansas, Texas, Michigan, Georgia and other pivotal territories.

Yet this market still has ample room for volatility: many of the Senate races that appear to tilt toward Democrats are, in reality, pure tossups that could completely change the trajectory of the election by the end of the night.

House Control Odds

Unlike the battle for Senate control, traders remain convinced that Democrats have virtually locked up the House majority. Contracts have traded above 90% for quite some time, but in the final stretch heading into Election Day, they touched an all-time cycle ceiling of 95% implied odds.

This market confidence is reinforced by public polling and political modeling. Academic forecasts project that Democrats are poised to control roughly 240 seats, well above the 218 threshold required to secure the majority.

Balance of Power Odds

This market has been exceptionally volatile in recent weeks. Tracking the odds for a Democratic sweep reveals sharp swings: in a matter of days, the contract surged from 63% to its current mark of 76%. This underscores that the primary barometer for the balance of power remains the race for the Senate, as Democratic control of the upper chamber trades at virtually identical implied odds.

The second most favored outcome among traders is divided government, with Republicans retaining the Senate and Democrats reclaiming the House majority. This bracket trades at an 18% implied probability, though it has lost significant momentum down the stretch. Just weeks ago, that same split-control scenario traded at 30% odds.

The bottom line for this board is tracking key Senate battlegrounds that will send seismic shockwaves through both chambers and shape the national balance of power for years to come.

Marquee Senate Races

Texas

This is one of the pivotal races for both parties. Democrat James Talarico leads the board with a 73% implied probability after touching a peak of 76%, historic territory for a Democratic candidate in the Lone Star State.

Yet public polling points to a dead heat between Talarico and Ken Paxton. Many analysts argue that Texas's entrenched Republican leanings could ultimately prove decisive.

By the end of the night, Democrats will be facing either a historic victory or a massive heartbreak.

Michigan

This Senate race has been shrouded in controversy ever since former Democratic candidate Haley Stevens crossed party lines to endorse Republican nominee Mike Rogers over Democrat Abdul El-Sayed.

Initially, the move dealt a sharp blow to the market, causing El-Sayed to lose momentum. However, within hours the Democrat experienced a rapid rebound, climbing from 70% to 79% in under 24 hours.

Unlike other volatile Senate battlegrounds, El-Sayed’s advantage has held remarkably steady in prediction markets and surveys. The Democrat is strongly positioned to finish the day with a decisive victory.

Ohio

Despite millions of dollars poured into Republican campaign efforts, Democrat Sherrod Brown remains the clear favorite in Ohio over his Republican challenger, Jon Husted.

Brown is trading at a 73% implied probability, a benchmark he has held steady over the past week, backed up by the latest polling showing him leading by 4 to 8 percentage points.

Maine

This is one of the most volatile and erratic markets on the entire board. Democrat Troy Jackson currently leads with a 70% implied probability, yet throughout October the race repeatedly entered into toss-up territory. In fact, back on October 26, Troy Jackson was trading at 58% and Republican Susan Collins at 42%.

What is striking is that public polling has not reflected that same turbulence: for weeks, surveys have shown Jackson out in front, at times by margins as wide as 9 percentage points. In this environment, backing the Democrat on the Polymarket board looks like an interesting position.

North Carolina

Not every Senate race is destined to be razor-thin. In North Carolina, Democrat Roy Cooper stands as a heavy favorite commanding a 98% implied probability, touching all-time high odds after months of dominating the trading board by a wide margin over his Republican rival, Michael Whatley.

Despite Donald Trump’s direct endorsement and a steady slate of high-profile rallies, Whatley has struggled to shift market sentiment. It remains to be seen whether the board is accurately reading the electorate.

South Carolina

Down south the landscape is considerably tighter and far more complex. The market is currently led by Republican candidate Darline Graham Nordone at a 71% implied probability. However, the odds for Democrat Annie Andrews continue to gather momentum, so tight margins are to be expected by the end of the day.

Iowa

This is one of the markets that you have to pay close attention to. In a matter of hours, Democrat Josh Turek seized the lead on the board, climbing to a 52% implied chance. Simultaneously, Republican nominee Ashley Hinson touched her lowest mark of the cycle at 49%, though she remains firmly competitive.

This Senate race will be decided on razor-thin margins and will prove decisive for the broader national balance of power.
