Orlando City looks to stay in playoff contention when in-state rival Inter Miami travels north for Saturday’s Major League Soccer showdown.
The Lions enter the Florida derby holding the final postseason spot in the Eastern Conference, while they also booked their place in the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup semifinal round last week.
Meanwhile, the visitors will take the pitch as one of the league’s hottest teams, plus they just secured a former league MVP in the summer transfer window.
Although we have a pair of “Sunshine State” clubs, this fixture isn’t highlighted as a part of Heineken Rivalry Week. However, this game provides one of the best value plays on the entire card.
After securing one of the final four places in a tournament competition, we might not see a fully motivated squad from Orlando as all eyes could be on the Open Cup.
However, the Lions need to start picking up results in league play if they want to qualify for the MLS Cup playoffs.
In its last six league contests, Orlando has only one win and also allowed nine goals at home during this stretch.
By The Numbers
- +3 — Despite the recent struggles at Exploria Stadium, the Lions still hold a positive xGDiff at home this season, according to fbref.com.
- 3.67 — Orlando City’s home tilts have averaged the third-most goals in MLS.
Inter Miami made a splash in the transfer market this week, announcing the arrival of Alejandro Pozuelo from Toronto FC in a trade for General Allocation Money.
The 2020 Landon Donovan MVP Award winner has notched 26 goals and 31 assists in his 88 appearances since joining the league in 2019.
This should be a huge boost for an Inter Miami squad that has struggled to create consistent offensive opportunities, which has kept it out of playoff contention.
By The Numbers
- 4 — In the last six games, only Seattle, Los Angeles FC, Vancouver and the New York Red Bulls have picked up more points than Inter Miami.
- +1.9 — Inter owns a positive xGDiff over the last five matches, which includes fixtures against tough competition in RBNY and FC Dallas.

Betting Analysis & Picks
When I look at the odds for this fixture, Orlando City is way overvalued in my opinion, but I’m looking for multiple options to back the visiting side.
That said, I’m going to be splitting my best bet into two plays, putting half of my wager on the Inter Miami moneyline at +360 odds. I’m also backing the Herons getting +0.5 goals via the Asian Handicap line of +108 odds being offered at PointsBet for my top selections.
With these plays, I’m able to cover myself in case the match ends in a draw and still get to take advantage of a great price with the in-form team.
The Picks: Inter Miami ML (+360) | Inter Miami +0.5 (+108)
