Hawkeyes 2026 Schedule & Betting Odds
Iowa Hawkeyes Odds & Betting Guide — 2026 Season
Iowa lost four regular-season games last year by a combined 15 points, all to teams that finished in the top 20. The Hawkeyes went 9-4 anyway. Then graduation and the draft took most of the roster that did it.
Where Iowa stands
The 2025 season ended 9-4 with a 6-3 Big Ten record, a No. 17 final ranking and a 34-27 ReliaQuest Bowl win over No. 14 Vanderbilt. Iowa sold out all seven home games for a fourth straight season.
The margins were absurd. Four regular-season losses, 15 total points, every opponent finishing inside the top 20. A handful of plays separated a nine-win season from something considerably better.
It was also a statistically strange year. Iowa's offensive line won the Joe Moore Award as the best in the country. Quarterback Mark Gronowski threw for roughly 1,700 yards while rushing for 16 touchdowns, tying a Big Ten single-season record. The kicker set school records and went undrafted. The return man broke an NCAA record that had belonged to Jaylen Waddle.
Nearly all of those names are gone through graduation and the 2026 NFL Draft.
What remains is the coaching. Kirk Ferentz enters his 28th season as the winningest coach in Big Ten history, having passed Woody Hayes during the 2025 campaign, and he holds the most wins in Iowa history. He has won nine or more games 10 times at Iowa and eight or more 16 times, including in nine of the past 10 completed seasons. Across the last five years Iowa has won 41 games and reached five bowls, three of them in January in Florida.
The staff continuity is unusual. Phil Parker enters his 15th season as defensive coordinator and Tim Lester his third running the offense.
The Big Ten and a September gauntlet
The conference held its membership for 2026, and Iowa's schedule front-loads its difficulty in an unusual way.
Three home non-conference games open the year: Northern Illinois on Sept. 5 in its first season after leaving the MAC for the Mountain West, the Cy-Hawk rivalry against Iowa State on Sept. 12 on NBC, and FCS Northern Iowa on Sept. 19.
Then comes the wall. Iowa travels to No. 16 Michigan on Sept. 26, hosts No. 1 Ohio State on Oct. 3, and flies to No. 17 Washington on Friday, Oct. 9 for a 9 p.m. Eastern kickoff. Three consecutive top-17 opponents, two on the road, one across the country on a weeknight.
A bye follows on Oct. 17 before the trophy games: Floyd of Rosedale at Minnesota on Oct. 24 and the Heartland Trophy against Wisconsin on Oct. 31.
Iowa 2026 futures odds
Iowa's number sits where it usually does, which is the whole story of this program.
The regression argument is the strongest case for the over. Losing four games by a combined 15 points is not a repeatable pattern. Close-game outcomes turn on variance more than on quality, and a team that went 0-4 in those spots against ranked opposition would normally expect to win one or two of them the following year.
The counter is that the roster which played those games so tightly has largely departed. A Joe Moore Award offensive line does not get replaced easily, and Gronowski's rushing production at quarterback was a specific and unusual scoring source.
What has not changed is the structure. Ferentz has produced eight or more wins in nine of the past 10 seasons, Parker has run the defense for 15 years, and Iowa's floor has been among the most reliable in the sport regardless of who plays. The Hawkeyes have been stuck on a plateau of eight to nine wins for years, which cuts both ways: it makes the over difficult and the under nearly as difficult.

Betting Iowa point spreads
A point spread bet turns on margin of victory rather than who wins.
Take the Oct. 3 home game against No. 1 Ohio State. These are illustrative prices, so pull live college football odds for the real number:
- Iowa +13.5 (-110)
- Ohio State -13.5 (-110)
Iowa covers by losing by 13 or fewer, or by winning outright. Ohio State covers by winning by 14 or more. The -110 on each side is the vig: risk $1.10 to win $1.
The Hawkeyes angle: four losses by a combined 15 points means Iowa covered numbers it did not win, which is the defining characteristic of this program. Ferentz teams lose close and win close, and they rarely get blown out in either direction. That produces cover rates that outrun win rates, particularly as an underdog against ranked opponents.
The September stretch tests exactly that. Michigan, Ohio State and Washington in consecutive weeks will produce three of the largest spreads Iowa sees all season, and the historical pattern says the Hawkeyes stay inside them.
Track it through the against the spread standings, since Iowa is one of the few programs where cover rate is a better description of the team than the record is.

Betting Iowa totals
An over/under asks whether the combined final score lands above or below the posted number. At 41.5, a 24-20 final goes over and a 21-17 final stays under.
- Over 41.5 (-110)
- Under 41.5 (-110)
Iowa totals are among the lowest in the sport, and the reasons are structural rather than incidental. Parker's defenses have suppressed scoring for 15 years, the offense generates few explosive plays by design, and the program's identity is built on field position and possession.
The halftime adjustment is the specific edge worth knowing. Whatever Ferentz and Parker install at the break has consistently produced second halves where opposing offenses stop functioning. That has a direct implication for second-half and live totals markets, where a number set at halftime will reflect the first two quarters rather than Iowa's historical pattern of shutting teams down after them.
The two trophy games in late October also fall in weather that suppresses scoring further. Minnesota on Oct. 24 and Wisconsin on Oct. 31 bring Upper Midwest conditions to a matchup of run-oriented teams. Public betting data helps read those spots, since it separates the share of tickets from the share of dollars.
Our analysts work the same angles in weekly college football picks.
Betting the Iowa moneyline
A moneyline bet is a bet on who wins outright. Margin is irrelevant.
An illustrative home price:
- Iowa -180
- Opponent +155
Convert to implied probability and the margin shows. Iowa at -180 breaks even around 64.3%; the opponent at +155 breaks even around 39.2%. Those sum past 100%, and the excess is the sportsbook's cut.
On payouts, $10 on Iowa at -180 returns $15.56 for a $5.56 profit. The same $10 at +155 returns $25.50 for a $15.50 profit. An odds calculator handles any price.
The close-loss record is what makes Iowa underdog moneylines worth examining. Four defeats by a combined 15 points against top-20 teams means the Hawkeyes were live in the fourth quarter of every game they lost, at prices that reflected a substantial talent gap. Ohio State at home and Michigan on the road are the two clearest spots where that history applies.
Kinnick Stadium is also a genuine factor. Seven consecutive sellouts across four seasons, and a program that has built its identity on defending home field, gives Iowa a home edge that the numbers do not always fully capture.
Iowa player props
College prop markets aren't offered in every legal state, so availability varies even where you can bet the game.
Prop pricing on this roster is harder than usual because the departures were concentrated in the places that generated production. The Joe Moore Award offensive line has largely turned over, which affects rushing efficiency more than any individual player change would.
Gronowski's absence creates the specific difficulty. His 16 rushing touchdowns tied a Big Ten single-season record while he threw for only around 1,700 yards, meaning Iowa's scoring came from the quarterback position in a way that will not repeat unless his replacement runs similarly. Oddsmakers setting passing lines cannot use 2025 team production as a guide, because those numbers describe a run-first quarterback rather than an offense.
Defensive props are the steadier market. Parker's 15th season means scheme continuity that almost no other program can match, and tackle props on Iowa linebackers have historically been well-supported by volume, since opposing offenses face long fields and grind out possessions.
