Ahead of the 78th Primetime Emmy Awards, The Action Network collected a list of records that could be broken at the 2026 awards ceremony.
To highlight some of the records that could be broken:
- “Widow’s Bay” could break the record for the most wins by a comedy series in a single year at the Emmys as well as the record for the most wins by a comedy series for its first season – the current record is held by “The Studio” with 13 wins in 2025 and “Widow’s Bay” has already won 8 Emmys at the Creative Arts ceremony and it is nominated for 7 more Emmys at the Primetime Emmys ceremony.
- “Saturday Night Live” could extend its record as the most awarded program in the history of the Primetime Emmy Awards – including its specials, the program has won 114 Emmys (including one win at the 2026 Creative Arts Emmys) and it is nominated for 1 more award in the Outstanding Variety Series category, which could bring its total to 115 awards won.
- Jean Smart (nominated for “Hacks”) or Alison Janney (nominated for “The Diplomat”) could tie the all-time record for the most Emmys won by a performer (8 wins), which is jointly held by Cloris Leachman & Julia Louis-Dreyfus – Smart has won 7 acting Emmys, including 4 for “Hacks”, so a win in 2026 in the Outstanding Lead Actress In A Comedy Series would be her 8th Emmy win and 5th one for “Hacks” while Janney has won 4 Emmys for “The West Wing”, 2 for “Mom” and 1 for “Masters Of Sex”, so a win in the Outstanding Supporting Actress In A Drama Series category for “The Diplomat” would also be her 8th victory.
- Matthew Rhys (nominated for “Widow’s Bay”) could become the first Welsh actor to ever win in the Outstanding Lead Actor In A Comedy Series category.
- Zendaya (nominated for “Euphoria”) could set a new record as the youngest actress to win 3 Emmys in the Outstanding Lead Actress In A Drama Series category – she became the youngest winner in the category when she won her first Emmy at age 24 in 2020 and is now 30.
- Martin Short (nominated for “Only Murders In The Building”) could break the record of Eugene Levy and become the oldest winner in the Outstanding Lead Actor In A Comedy Series category – Levy was 73 when he won for “Schitt’s Creek” in 2020 and Martin Short is 76.
