(FD) Walker Buehler was left in to take a beating on a warm summer, wind blowing out day at Wrigley last time out. He allowed one-third of his home runs for the season in that outing. Prior to that he had allowed a single run exactly in five straight starts with an underlying 3.38 xERA and 3.18 xFIP. Brandon Pfaadt allowed 1 run to and struck out 2 of 19 Giants in his return to the Arizona rotation. Nothing in that start screamed significant improvement. It’s a smaller sample for Pfaadt, but Buehler’s indicators have been about a half run better and while the San Diego projected lineup has a 103 RC+ vs RHP (109 wRC+ L30 days), the Arizona projected lineup is at 73 (74) with an 84 wRC+ on the road. Both teams have comparably strong defenses. BARTOLO rates both bullpens barely inside the top 10, but they both have bottom third of the league estimators over the last 30 days with the Padres just slightly worse.
